Arizona The Flood Control District of Maricopa County is planning to carry out phase two of the rehabilitation of the White Tanks flood-retarding structure in Buckeye. This phase includes removing the existing gated 36-in. corrugated-metal pipe outlet, constructing a gated upstream intake structure, extending the east abutment to the north and constructing a new west emergency spillway. Minnesota The University of Minnesota is planning to build a replacement for the Bell Natural History Museum and Planetarium in Minneapolis. The 62,500-sq-ft building will include a 120-seat planetarium. Perkins & Will is the architect of record, while Gallagher & Associates will serve as the exhibits designer; McGough has been selected as the construction manager-at-risk. New Hampshire Stonewall Kitchen, a specialty foods company, is planning to build a warehouse- distribution center at a 50-acre site that formerly was the Mast Road Sand and Gravel pit, in Dover. The first phase calls for constructing a 75,000- to 95,000-sq-ft warehouse building. Future expansions may include manufacturing and retail-sales facilities. Oregon The Oregon Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out phase two of the repainting of the Astoria-Megler Bridge, which spans the Columbia River between Astoria, Ore., and Megler, Wash. The 4.1-mile-long structure is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America and has a main span of 1,232 ft. The project is valued at $22.4 million. Texas Medistar Corp. is planning to build the Kindred Parkwest skilled-nursing facility in Katy. The project entails constructing a two-story, 60,000-sq-ft building that will contain an 80-bed facility. Designed by CetraRuddy, the reinforced-concrete structure will feature floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls and include a landscaped outdoor sundeck, indoor and outdoor pools, and ground-floor retail space. North Dakota Comstock Construction Inc. has started building the Burleigh-Morton County Jail in Bismarck.
