Louisiana The Louisiana Office of Facility Planning and Control is preparing to build the New Jetson Center for Youth in Baker. The old center was closed abruptly by state officials in January 2014. Housing 72 juvenile inmates, the new 65,000-sq-ft facility will have core components—administration, medical, educational and food services—that will be designed to allow for future expansion of housing. Missouri Copaken Brooks and EPC Real Estate Group are developing ARTerra, an apartment building in Kansas City's Crossroads District. North Dakota The Basin Electric Power Cooperative is planning to build the Emmons County Power Plant in Linton. The project will entail the construction of a combined-cycle plant, capable of producing 675 MW, with two turbines fueled by natural gas. The owner will be subcontracting. California Davis Reed Construction has started building the Kimpton Palomar Hotel in Palm Springs. The seven-story, 124,000-sq-ft, 155-room hotel will have an amenity deck on the seventh floor. Maine CPM Contractors has started work on improvements to the Eastport Breakwater. A 200-ft-long portion of the 400-ft-long, L-shaped breakwater collapsed in early December 2014. Maryland The Johns Hopkins Health System has awarded a $40.5- million contract to Grunley Mascaro Construction LLC to renovate the Meyer Building on the hospital's East Baltimore campus. The project will involve updating three stories of the 12-story, 72,000-sq-ft building's patient and therapeutic units, converting them from a mix of private and semi-private rooms to all private rooms. Iowa 5/7 The City of Dubuque is seeking bidders to carry out the Upper Bee Branch Creek Restoration Project. The project consists of creating a 2,000-ft-long stormwater conveyance channel and includes roughly 200,000 cu yd of excavation, 30,000 sq ft of granite rock bottom, 10,000 sq ft of limestone channel walls, water-pumping stations, 4,000 ft of 8-in. through 36-in.-dia sanitary sewer and 3,000 ft of 12-in. through 72-in.-dia storm sewer. When the project is completed, the pipes will allow stormwater to drain more efficiently to the existing Lower Bee Branch Creek and the 16th Detention Basin from the Upper Bee Branch Creek.
