Ohio Industrial Developments International has announced plans for Building 8 at Park North, a 992,524-sq-ft industrial building in Monroe. Plans were submitted to the city calling for an estimated $22.5-million building that could be used as a distribution center, warehouse or manufacturing plant depending on the tenant. The design calls for a single building with a precast-concrete frame. The developer currently is pursuing building permits for the speculative project and plans to break ground in the summer of 2015, with construction to be completed by early 2016. Ohio The Ohio Dept. of Transportation has begun demolition work for the $132-million highway reconstruction of the Interstate 76 and 77 interchange in downtown Akron. The project began in May with the demolition of a 40,000-sq-ft office building. Construction of the new interchange is expected to begin in 2016. Project calls for the expansion and rebuilding of the interstate highway interchange, including the demolition of existing roadways, concrete barriers, guardrails and catch basins. New construction will involve heavy civil work, construction of new approaches, overpasses, asphalt paving and other related road work. South Carolina The school board of Clover recently awarded a $17.8-million contract to Beam Construction Co. to build an aquatic center in Lake Wylie. The contract covers the construction of a 58,000-sq-ft, two-story aquatic and fitness center, as well as an outdoor 50-meter swimming pool, walking track and a water park. The new building will consist of load-bearing masonry with brick and wall panel veneers. The aquatic center will house two swimming pools, a gymnasium, racquetball courts and locker rooms. Florida 6/16 Construction is set to begin soon and subcontractor bids are being sought by construction manager The Weitz Co. for a new courthouse in West Palm Beach. The 4th District Court of Appeals Courthouse is a new 40,495-sq-ft, four-story structure with an adjacent 358-car, four-story parking garage. The courthouse building will have a structural-steel frame composite steel decks with an architectural precast concrete and glass exterior. The parking garage will be a precast-concrete structure and will have upper-floor connections to existing courthouse buildings adjacent to the site, in addition to a secured first floor reserved for the new courthouse building. Washington 6/23 The City of Seattle is seeking prequalification bids for CM-at-risk services for the construction of a new police station. The Seattle Police North Precient will be a 105,000-sq-ft, three-story building with an attached three-story parking garage and a firing range. Project cost is estimated at $80 million. The project's scope will also include the demolition of existing structures on the site. The new police station is intended to seek LEED certification. Alabama 6/30 Bids are being sought for a wastewater treatment facility in Rainbow City. Plans call for significant upgrades to an existing influent pumping station, new screening structures, two new oxidation ditches and two new circular final clarifiers, as well as a new clorine chamber and associated pumping station. Other aspects of the project include new chlorination and dechlorination feed systems, new splitter boxes, a new drawoff structure for the existing lagoon and a new SCADA industrial control system. Scope of the project also includes minor demolition work and all of the piping work related to the new facility. Massachusetts 6/30 The Massachusetts Dept. of Transportation is seeking bids for a bridge replacement on Route 16, also known as the Revere Beach Parkway. California 7/23 A general contractor is being sought for construction of a new healthcare facility at Soledad State Prison. The $29.3-million project consists of nine new buildings totaling 18,213 sq ft, as well related infrastructure improvements. The buildings will be slab on grade with exterior fully grouted structural-concrete masonry walls. The project will also include relocation of existing utilities and other related site work.
