ALASKA The North Slope Borough Dept. of Capital Improvement Program Management has awarded Hattenburg Dilley & Linnell LLC an $810,000 contract to provide design services for the relocation of Kaktovik Airport. The project includes a new 4,500-ft-long runway with a 5,100-ft-long safety area, a protective shelter for passengers, a new 0.4-mile-long access road to the airport site from the current landfill, and a new 1.1-mile access road from the current landfill to the relocated landfill site. ARIZONA The Town of Gilbert has chosen Carollo Engineers to provide engineering services for a new 2-million-gal reservoir and pump station near Ray Road and Recker Road. CALIFORNIA Santa Clara County has selected Hensel Phelps Construction Co. to provide design-build services to replace the services building at the Santa Clara Medical Center in San Jose. The project includes structural upgrades to two acute- care facilities and 150,000 sq ft of new space for the material management dock facility, main kitchen and tunnel connection as well as other site improvements. NEW YORK The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Dept. of Bridges and Tunnels has selected HAKS to provide construction management and inspection services for the replacement of electrical switchgear and power distribution at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. The project includes motor control centers, programmable motor protection panels and medium-voltage feeders. The project includes phased removal and replacement of switchgear and lead abatement. TENNESSEE The U.S. Army Contracting Command has awarded a $15.9-million firm-fixed-price contract to BAE Systems/Ordnance Systems Inc. for the modernization of the research department explosive (RDX) wastewater facility at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport. CALIFORNIA 3/31 The Coast Community College District is seeking qualifications for design services to replace the Orange Coast College Planetarium. The existing planetarium is adjacent to the Lewis Center for Applied Sciences. The new planetarium will have a 50-ft-dia dome and seat up to 150. The new building will replace the existing structure in accordance to a completed feasibility study. The estimated construction cost is $10 million. ALASKA 3/31 The University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking proposals for design and programming of the 75,000-sq-ft Engineering Instructional Laboratory building. The project includes a materials/equipment storage yard, conferencing/collaborative learning areas and structured parking. The required work includes site evaluation and master-planning for the site infrastructure and eventual build-out. The estimated construction cost is $70 million. GEORGIA 3/31 Effingham County is seeking proposals for design-build services for a new sheriff s office and jail facility. The existing 27,844-sq-ft facility is overcrowded and faces issues of water intrusion. The new facility includes a kitchen, property rooms and workspace for 94 deputies, 29 detention officers and 500 incarcerated individuals. The estimated construction cost is $16 million. WASHINGTON 4/1 King County is seeking proposals for final design services for improved overflow control of the 744-acre South Mongolia basin and sewer system.
