LOUISIANA The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an $11.4-million firm-fixed-price contract to F. Miller Construction LLC for flood protection work. The project will construct a continuous line of hurricane pile-founded reinforced concrete T-wall monoliths across the discharge basin at the Belle Chasse No. 2 pumping station on the east side of the Algiers Canal in Plaquemines Parish. New butterfly gates will be required within the steel discharge tubes. Sitework will include modifications to existing pumping-station utilities and dewatering systems as well as miscellaneous excavation and demolition. VIRGINIA The Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority has awarded a $10.2-million contract to Fru-Con Construction to expand the Winters Branch pump station in Manassas. The project will more than double the facility’s capacity to 17.5 million gallons per day from 7.2 mgd. In addition to refurbishing the existing pump station, the project entails building a new submersible pump station, a new gravity sewer and a new emergency generator and surge-tank building as well as installing 10,000 ft of a new 24-in.-dia force main.
