TEXAS The Texas Transportation Commission voted to conditionally award a contract for the New LBJ-635 highway corridor project to LBJ Development Partners, which will work with the commission in a public-private partnership to develop the approximately $4-billion highway project. The project calls for a 13-mile highway corridor linking U.S. Highway 75 with Farmer’s Branch, a suburb of Dallas. Six depressed lanes will be added as managed lanes to the highway’s reconstructed eight lanes, which will be cantilevered over the new lanes. All together, counting service lanes, the new highway will have 18-20 lanes. Construction is expected to take five years to complete. Under the terms of the agreement, the state will retain ownership of the roadway, while LBJ Development Partners will receive the bulk of toll revenue collected during the term of the 55-year contract. Portions of the design and traffic plans are still in development, and the contract is expected to be finalized within the next two months. TxDOT, 125 East 11th St., Austin 78701.
