The Babcock & Wilcox Co., Charlotte, N.C., announced on Nov. 5 executive changes as part of its expected corporate split into two standalone companies to boost shareholder value, which will be completed next summer. Current B&W President and CEO E. James Ferland will take the same roles in one company, to be called Babcock & Wilcox, which will consist of the former firm’s power generation
Baker
equipment and services business. He has been In his current role since 2012. Peyton S. “Sandy” Baker, president and chief operations officer of the government and nuclear operations group, will become president and CEO of BWX Technologies. That company will includes nuclear small modular reactor development, and decommissioning and decontamination work. A 43-year company veteran, he has been in his current role since 2011.

Babcock & Wilcox ranks at No. 40 on ENR’s list of The Top 400 Contractors, with nearly $1.4 billion in 2013 revenue. Analysts speculate the split units will be acquired. “We do not believe the ultimate end game is for the two businesses to become two publicly traded companies,” says Jamie Cook, lead E&C sector analyst for Credit Suisse. She says potential acquirers of BWX Technologies include aerospace and defense companies, and that an international firm would likely buy the power generation business “as Asian players are trying to enter the market.” According to Cook, B&W executives say they are not in acquisition talks with any potental buyers.

Collins
The American Council of  Engineering Cos., Washington state chapter, has named Van Collins president and CEO. Formerly head of state government affairs for the Associated General Contractors of Washington, he replaces Bill Garrity, a 20-year veteran who has retired.

Knutson Construction, Minneapolis, has named Vital Brouillard vice president of preconstruction. He was preconstruction director at contractor JE Dunn. Christine Wiegert also is now director of business development. She was marketing vice president at engineering firm TKDA, St. Paul. Chris Terry and Tom Leimer are promoted to vice president and division manager, respectively.

ARCADIS US, the Highlands Ranch, Colo.-based unit of the Dutch global engineer, has elevated Lowell McBurney, a 23-year company veteran to executive vice president. Previously senior vice president, he is a Syracuse, N.Y.-based client development director and previous operations director and market sector leader. Promoted to senior vice president in various U.S. locations are Jeff Burdick, Derek Edge, Peter Glus,
TWayne Holcombe. Tim Llewellyn and Jim McConnell. The firm also named eight new vice presidents and 13 new associate vice presidents across the country.

Barnard
Timothy Barnard, the chairman of contractor Barnard Cos., Bozeman, Mont., and Raymond R. Oneglia, vice chairman of O&G Industries, a Torrington, Conn., construction firm, will be cited for industry

achievement by the Moles, an East Coast-group of heavy construction professionals. Barnard, whose firm is the managing partner of a joint venture building San Francisco’s $233-million Central Subway tunnel project that includes twin tunnel-boring machines, is the group’s non-member to be recognized; Oneglia, a past president of both the Moles and the Connecticut Road Builders Association, is the member awardee. They will be recognized in New York City on Jan. 28.

The National Academy of Construction, a Texas-based group of construction industry leaders who are peer-selected for their contributions to the industry, last month inducted 28 new members.
