Brazil Petrobras has awarded Saipem an engineer-procure-construct contract for the Lula Norte, Lula Sul and Lula Extremo Sul project, to be developed in the Santos Basin Pre-Salt region, about 300 kilometers off the coasts of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states. The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of three offshore pipelines for gas export systems in water depths of up to 2,200 meters. France Region Languedoc-Roussillon is planning to build the Narbonne Archaeological Museum in Narbonne. The 9,000-sq-m building will feature an over-sailing roof structure to shade clerestory windows as well as pedestrian routes and internal courtyards, planted to provide shade and cooling. The museum will display a collection of objects from Narbonne's ancient Roman past, including sarcophagi, frescos and furniture. Valued at $60 million, it was designed by Foster + Partners. Italy A.S. Roma S.P.A., the soccer team, is planning to build Stadio della Roma, a new 52,500-seat stadium. It will have a natural grass field and a polytetrafluoro- ethylene (PTFE) retractable canopy; for certain events, it will be capable of expanding to 60,000 seats. Woods Bagot is the designer. Mexico The Mexico Secretariat of Transportation & Communications is planning to expand the Mexico City International Airport, or Benito Juárez International Airport. The project will add a third terminal and 12,500 acres of land to the existing airport. The new 70-gate terminal will increase the airport's capacity by 40 million passengers annually. Seven firms—Zaha Hadid Partners, Foster + Partners, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Pascall+Watson, SOM, Gensler and Teodoro Gonzalez de Leon, with Albert Kalach:TAX—have been short-listed. An early master plan was drawn up by Arup. The project is valued at between $1 billion and $3 billion. Netherlands Royal BAM Group, acting as both the project owner and the general contractor, has started building the Hoog Catharijne Indoor Shopping Center. The mixed-use development will include a five-story, 42,000-sq-m retail and shopping space, 1,300 parking spaces, and a 9,000-sq-m hotel as well as the renovation of 6,000 sq m of the existing shopping center. Russia-Bulgaria South Stream Transport B.V. is planning to build the South Stream pipeline. The project entails constructing four parallel 931-km-long natural-gas pipelines across the Black Sea from Anapa, Russia, to Varna, Bulgaria. The pipeline will be constructed of over 75,000 sections of pipe, each 12 m long, installed in water depths of up to 2,200 m. Saipem has been selected as the contractor for pipelines Nos. 2, 3 and 4. South Stream Transport B.V. is a consortium comprising four shareholders: OAO Gazprom (50%), Eni S.p.A. (20%), EDF (15%) and Wintershall Holding GmbH/BASF Group (15%). United Kingdom Cambridge University Hospitals is planning to build The Forum, a mixed-use medical and educational development, in Cambridge. The project includes a 90-bed private hospital, operated by Ramsay Healthcare; a postgraduate medical education center; a 198-room Crowne Plaza Hotel; a 900-delegate conference center; shops, restaurants and a 470-space parking garage. United Kingdom The Trump Organization recently purchased the Turnberry Golf Resort in Scotland and is planning to refurbish it. The resort, located in South Ayrshire on the coast of the outer Firth of Clyde, includes a 150-room luxury hotel, three golf courses, six restaurants and a spa. The resort opened in 1906, and its Ailsa Course has hosted the British Open golf championship four times. The project is valued at $100 million.
