South Central Construction's annual Best Of competition recognizes construction and design excellence from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. An independent jury of industry experts in design and construction judged 55 nominated projects in 14 categories.
Judges included:
Larry Cockrum of Cockrum Consulting; Roger Sigler of Inman Construction; Ben Shelton of Standard Construction Co. Inc.; Tim Michael of Archimania; George Sanders of SMS Contractors Inc.; Martin E. Lipinski of the University of Memphis; Anita Haines of Pyramid Electric Inc.; Mark Zellner of Zellner Construction Co. Inc.; and Rusty Linkous of Linkous Construction.
Entries were judged on the following criteria: solutions to challenges, project management, innovation, client service, safety and design unity. Eligible projects had to be located within the four-state region and completed between Sept. 1, 2007, and Aug. 31, 2008.

WorshipSevier Heights Baptist Church
Rentenbach Constructors has provided construction management services to Sevier Heights Baptist Church for the development of its entire Knoxville, Tenn., campus. The design-build Phase II project consisted of 86,921 sq ft of new construction. The overall appearance of the new facility was carefully designed to integrate with the existing Phase I facility.
Administrative offices were remodeled in Phase II to accommodate a new main entrance from the multi-purpose room lobby. Additional offices were constructed from existing preschool classrooms. Specialty ContractingMagnolia Regional Health Center
The most difficult challenge for Ivey Mechanical Co. on the Magnolia Regional Health Center project was meeting the schedule. Ivey received a contract approximately six months after construction had begun and made a commitment to the owner to meet the completion date of the medical office building portion of the project, which was only six months away. This timeline meant the Ivey team had to be knowledgeable, focused and committed. Situated on Montgomery’s riverfront, the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center consists of 342 rooms, including luxury presidential and governor suites situated on 10 of the hotel’s 12 floors. Renovation/RestorationCourt Square Center Renovation
Court Square Center was funded by a public-private partnership that includes Prague-based CGI & Partners and a group of local investors known as Court Square Center LLC. It is a captivating 22-story skyscraper, circa 1924, that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The work was not a simple cosmetic endeavor. It involved significant stabilization of the building, which suffered from significant structural deterioration, water damage and areas where the roof had collapsed. Operated by SYSCO Food Services of Knoxville LLC, the $36 million facility - completed five weeks ahead of schedule in early 2008 - enhances the company’s ability to better serve new and existing customers in the region. Health CareGateway Medical Center Replacement Facility
Through schedule acceleration and teamwork, the BE&K Building Group's project team delivered the new 270-bed Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, Tenn., nearly four months ahead of schedule. The team broke ground on the greenfield $124 million replacement hospital in July 2006, with an expected 25-month construction schedule. Just 21.5 months later, the owner was granted a Certificate of Occupancy. BridgeThe Junction Bridge Pedestrian Conversion Project
