Northwest Construction's annual Best Of competition recognizes construction and design excellence from Oregon, Washington and Alaska. An independent jury of industry experts judged 75 projects.
The judges were:
Phil Kennedy, marketing coordinator, Andersen Construction, Portland; James Isaf, LEED AP, vice president and Northwest region manager, Heery International, Seattle; James McGrath, Jr., associate, LEED AP, ZGF, Portland, Gregg Weston, P.E., OTAK, Portland; Jasmine Braden, project manager, Neil Clark Construction, Portland; Lisa Pettersen, LEED AP, SERA Architects, Portland; and Carol Helms, NAWIC representative, Portland.
Northwest Construction is proud to cosponsor the first Design Build Institute of America Northwest Chapter awards as well. Darlene Septelka, Landon Associates, Seattle and Richard Robison, with Mithun Architects in Seattle judged those entries, and the general Washington categories. Awards for the sustainable categories will be announced in the January issue of GreenSmart.
Entries were judged on the following criteria: solution to challenges; project management; innovation; client service; safety and design unity. Eligible projects had to be located within the Northwest region and be at least 90 percent complete by December 2008.

Best HospitalityParadise Lodge
The contractor renovated the historic Paradise Lodge at Mount Rainier in Washington State and met the deadline, in spite of record snowfall of over 700 inches.
