2008 Best of Awards

McGraw-Hill Construction’s first Best of the Best Awards recognize construction and design excellence from across the U.S. in 2008. The long road for the winners featured on the following pages began in August when each project was just one of thousands submitted to McGraw-Hill Construction’s network of 11 regional publications for consideration for a regional Best of 2008 Award. Each publication convened a local panel of industry experts to select 225 regional winners, which eventually moved on to the national Best of the Best competition.

In November, an independent 13-member jury of construction professionals reviewed the projects and narrowed them down to 70 finalists in a variety of categories, including green building, transportation and higher education. After a spirited debate, the jury arrived at 23 winners that best represented the qualities lauded by the awards program: innovation, teamwork, aesthetic quality, workmanship and contribution to the community.

Thanks to the dozens of judges who selected the regional and national winners.
