Owners’ interest in making the capture and management of asset data an integral part of design and construction services is not lost on software and services vendors.

Bentley Systems Inc., Exton, Pa., whose software is widely used for infrastructure design, and Autodesk Inc. are going after the life-cycle market by broadening data exchange capabilities of their software and building on design and construction products.

Just as Bentley’s ProjectWise platform manages project information up to handover, Bentley’s AssetWise, introduced a year ago, is a platform for operations to generate and maintain asset-information. It leverages Bentley’s year-old acquisition of Enterprise Informatics Inc. and its eB Insight software, a mainstay in nuclear operations. Users include energy companies, utilities, rail and government customers as well as the construction firms that build for them. Bentley delivered its first release of eB Insight on Feb. 9.

San Raphael, Calif.-based Autodesk also is connecting products to operations and maintenance. It partnered a year ago with Raleigh, N.C.-based FM: Systems to create applications to complement Autodesk’s BIM products. This collaboration led to the release in August of a new version of FM’s web-based, FM: Interact Workplace Management Suite with bi-directional integration to Autodesk Revit Architecture software. The companies say this improves work between stakeholders as designs evolve. From within the tool, facility managers can manage space inventories, allocations and occupancy in Revit and synchronize the models with building systems data in a facility maintenance module.

Other familiar names also are aligned. Meridian’s seven-year-old Proliance web-service platform is a life-cycle management product to support owners with complex capital projects, construction and real-estate portfolios. Also in the market is 10-year-old Skire, Menlo Park, Calif., whose Unifer is a cloud-based system for managing capital projects, facilities and real estate. Skire’s founder and president, Massy Mehdipour, as well as almost all the company’s officers, started in capital facilities engineering and construction.
