CONTRACTS/BIDS/PROPOSALS

CALIFORNIA Work is under way on the $86-million renovation of Carlsbad High School located at 3557 Lancer Way in Carlsbad. The Carlsbad Unified School District awarded the contract for the multiphase project to McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. Work includes demolition of the existing stadium, installation of underground utility infrastructure and construction of a new $12-million stadium, which includes a synthetic track and field and aluminum bleachers. Completion is scheduled for fall 2011. The reconstruction and modernization phase is slated to start in spring 2009, and will include construction of the school’s new permanent structures. The final phase will involve the removal of portable classroom buildings and construction of additional parking and basketball courts. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA-VIRGINIA A joint venture of Forrester Construction Co.’s Education Group and Columbia Enterprises has been awarded a contract by the District of Columbia Public Schools to construct the Addison Elementary School in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. The $6-million project involves 16,000 sq ft of historic renovation at the school, as well as extensive site work. Construction is well under way and scheduled to be completed in January 2009. Forrester is also constructing the $25-million Loudoun County Day School, which will accommodated students in pre-K through eighth grade. Located on a 69-acre campus off Evergreen Mills Rd. in Leesburg, Va., this project includes a new 70,000-sq-ft academic classroom building, 10,000-sq-ft gymnasium and athletic fields, as well as a middle school, common area and administrative offices. Construction is under way and completion is expected in mid-2009. HAWAII Watts Constructors has been awarded a $32.6-million contract by the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command-Pacific for the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center Replacement Project at Pearl Harbor. The project involves construction of new buildings to support security, restroom, sales, education, offices, exhibits and resting areas; renovation of the existing theater and demolition of the existing facility. MINNESOTA A new $50-million global research and development center is being built by Mortenson Construction for Daikin Industries Ltd. and its subsidiary McQuay International. Located in Plymouth, the Applied Development Center will support product development, testing and verification of commercial heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. VIRGINIA Construction of a five-level, 310,000-sq-ft parking garage with 950 spaces is well under way by Scott Long Construction for the Inova Health System Facilities Development at the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax.
