FLORIDA Flagler Racetrack and Magic City Casino has retained LPCiminelli as construction manager for a project to transform Miami’s Flagler Dogtrack into a new racetrack-casino-entertainment complex. The $91-million project includes the expansion and renovation of the existing 29-acre dog- racing facility, starting with upgrades to the grandstand and concourse. A new food court will be added, along with a bar and lounge on the gaming floor and a 3,500-seat amphitheater. LPCiminelli, 369 Franklin St., Buffalo, N.Y. 14202.

FLORIDA Pirtle Construction Co. was selected to serve as construction manager for the new $27-million Florida Atlantic University-University of Florida Joint-Use Facility located on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Davie. SchenkelSchultz Architect has designed the 75,000-sq-ft building to meet LEED Silver certification guidelines. The new facility will house the University’s College of Science with expanded research and support facilities, as well as research and support spaces for UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. It will also include office space for FAU’s College of Arts and Letters, and state-of-the-art classrooms. Construction is slated to start in March 2009, with completion scheduled for 2010. FLORIDA Coastal Mechanical Services LLC was awarded a contract by Skanska USA Building Inc. to provide HVAC and plumbing services for the new Bartram Springs K-5 School in Jacksonville. The new four-building, 100,000-sq-ft school complex will include classrooms, music and arts skills development areas, a media center, cafeteria and kitchen. Completion is scheduled for July 2009. Coastal Mechanical also has been selected by McCarthy Building Cos. for the new three-story, 70,000-sq-ft Kindred Long-Term Acute Care Hospital in Melbourne. This new 60-bed facility will include seven custom air handlers, a 300-ton chiller, a complete medical gas system and two fully functional operating rooms. Completion is scheduled for June 2009. FLORIDA Cogdell Spencer Inc. has announced the recent signing of an agreement to develop a $22.4-million medical office building and outpatient treatment center in Pensacola. The 75,985-sq-ft facility is the first project since the closing of the merger with Marshall Erdman and Associates (now Erdman, A Cogdell Spencer Co.). The project will include design-build development and property-management services for the three-story project located on the 4700 block of N. Davis Highway between the intersections of Royce Street and Hewitt Street. Site work started in late September, and project completion is scheduled for December 2009. FLORIDA Terry’s Electric Inc. was selected as the electrical contractor by W.G. Mills for the School District of Osceola County’s new two-story, 100,000-sq-ft Elementary School “L” located in Poinciana. The project is slated for completion in February 2009. Terry’s Electric has also been awarded a contract by The Douglas Co. for the new 100-unit Bentley Commons at Zephyrhills, an assisted-living facility located at Pretty Pond and Dairy Rds. in Zephyrhills. FLORIDA Tri-City Electrical Contractors Inc. has begun electrical work on several projects throughout Florida. A $2-million contract was awarded to the firm by Winter Park Construction for the new three-story, 197,890-sq-ft Oakmonte Village Assisted-Living Facility located on International Parkway at Lake Mary Blvd. in Lake Mary. Completion is slated for April 2009. Epoch Properties awarded a $2.3-million contract for the new 456-unit Cumberland Park Apartments located in Orlando. Completion of this project is anticipated in May 2009. Work is under way on a $1.5-million contract awarded to Tri-City by LandSouth Construction to provide electrical work for the new 310-unit Integra Woods at Palm Coast Apartments located at the northeast corner of Seminole Woods Blvd. and U.S. 1 in Palm Coast. FLORIDA Work is under way on a contract awarded to Tilt-Con Corp. by general contractor W.G. Mills to provide tilt-up concrete work for the School District of Osceola County's new two-story, 113,903-sq-ft Elementary School “M” at 4000 Pine Tree Dr. in St. Cloud. Another contract for tilt-up concrete work was awarded to Tilt-Con by Flagler Construction for the new 189,140-sq-ft Beacon Lakes Warehouse Building 12 located in Miami. The scope of work for both projects include foundations, slab-on-grade and tilt-up concrete wall panels. Both are slated for completion in December. ILLINOIS A contract to provide construction management services for projects at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was awarded to Turner Construction Co. The scope of work includes a residence hall, which will be a 58,000-sq-ft building with beds to accommodate 150 students, and a 140,000-sq-ft student-dining and residential building designed to accommodate 1,700 students. Both project are being constructed to achieve a LEED Silver certification by the U.S.Green Buildings Council. Construction is under way, with completion expected in May 2010. LOUISIANA BE&K, a division of KBR Inc., has been awarded a $232-million contract by ADA-ES Inc. to provide full engineering, procurement and construction services for the construction of its Red River Activated Carbon Plant located in Red River Parish. MARYLAND The Maryland Transit Administration has selected Greenhorne & O’Mara, Baltimore Mid-Atlantic Transportation, as the prime contractor, along with ATCS and PLC-EBA Engineering Inc., for new construction or rehabilitation of transit and/or railroad structures and facilities throughout the state. The five-year, $16.5-million contract calls for the firms to provide construction-management and inspection services on an as-needed basis. Greenhorne & O’Mara has also been awarded a four-year contract by the Maryland Transportation Authority to provide physical on-site condition inspections at several toll facilities throughout Maryland. MASSACHUSETTS Suffolk Construction Co. was awarded a contract by the Massachusetts Port Authority for Terminal E renovation for Northwest Airlines at Logan International Airport in Boston. The $8-million project will include a fit-out for the relocation of Northwest Airlines, a second-floor addition to the main concourse and a full upgrade to the security checkpoint. MISSOURI A $20.8-million contract was awarded to K&S Associates Inc. by the City of Columbia for 110,000-sq-ft City Hall addition and renovation project at 701 East Broadway. The project, which is being developed to achieve LEED Silver certification, includes 55,000 sq ft of renovation, and demolition of the existing utility-services annex to accommodate construction of the new five-story, 55,000-sq-ft addition. NEW YORK-UTAH Welsbach Electric, a subsidiary of EMCOR Group Inc., has been awarded a contract to provide electrical-construction services for a new two-story, 170,000-sq-ft clean-water treatment plant for the New York City Dept. of Environmental Protection. The contract calls for Welsbach to perform complete electrical installation associated with the construction of the project’s 2-billion gallon-per-day ultraviolet light disinfection facility located in Westchester County, N.Y. The contract also involves providing electrical-construction services for eight additional buildings and structures associated with the project. Another EMCOR subsidiary has been awarded a contract to provide electrical- infrastructure work for the 16-acre Montage Resort at Deer Valley in Park City, Utah. Wasatch Electric will install a complete electrical system for the 13-story, one-million-sq-ft resort, which consists of condominiums, hotel rooms and meeting rooms, as well as four levels of parking, retail shops, restaurants, swimming pools and a spa. WISCONSIN URS Corp. has been awarded a contract by We Energies to provide management, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for the upgrade of the air- quality-control system at the Oak Creek Powerplant. In an effort to meet state and federal air quality requirements, the contract calls for URS to install two wet limestone forced-oxidation flue-gas-desulfurization systems for the removal of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and two selective catalytic reduction systems for the removal of nitrogen oxide (NOx). WYOMING Babcock & Wilcox Co. is currently working on a contract valued at more than $40 million awarded by Black Hills Corp. to engineer and supply a pulverized coal-fired boiler and environmental-control equipment for the Wygen Unit 3 powerplant located near Gillette. The contract calls for B&W to design and supply the plant’s 100-MW boiler, which features B&W’s AireJet burner for low-NOx emissions, selective catalytic reduction system, dry flue-gas- desulfurization system and fabric filter baghouse. Commissioning of Unit 3, which will burn low-sulfur Powder River Basin coal is similar in design to Wygen Units 1 and 2, is slated for 2010.
