California The Los Angeles County Sanitation District No. 5 is planning to build an ocean outfall tunnel. The 6.9-mile-long, 18-ft-dia tunnel will carry treated effluent from the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant in Carson to existing ocean outfalls at Royal Palms Beach. Because the tunnel will cross two fault lines, it will be constructed using gasketed concrete segmented liners. Construction is expected to start in spring 2016.
