California The Washington Township Healthcare System is planning to build the Washington Hospital parking garage in Fremont. The project encompasses building a seven-story, 470-space reinforced-concrete garage at 2000 Mowry Ave. Vance Brown Builders has been selected as the general contractor. Nevada The Olin Corp. is planning to expand its chlor-alkali plant in Henderson to increase production of various products, including chlorine, caustic soda, sodium hydrosulfite, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen, potassium hydroxide and bleach products, which are used to treat water and wastewater; they also are used by the mining and oil-and-gas industries in their production processes. New York Waters Edge Lighthouse Restaurant & Inn plans to build a hotel in Glenville. The project entails building a 110-room hotel adjacent to the Waters Edge Lighthouse restaurant on the banks of the Mohawk River. The project is valued at $14 million. South Carolina The Evening Post Publishing Co. has selected Greystar Real Estate Partners and Lincoln Harris to develop the first phase of Courier Square, a mixed-use project in Charleston. The project will entail apartments, office and retail space, and a parking deck on a 2.8-acre site at the intersection of Meeting and Columbus streets. Florida NextEra Energy Resources LLC has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Port Everglades Next Generation Clean Energy Center in Fort Lauderdale to Zachry Engineering Corp. The project entails building a 1,277-MW powerplant, comprising three 250-MW turbines and a 500-MW turbine. Construction is expected to start in January 2014, and be completed by June 2016. Louisiana The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a firm-fixed-price, option-filled contract with a maximum value of $52 million to B&K Construction Co. for work on the Southeast Louisiana Urban Drainage Project. The project team will construct 4,300 ft of concrete-covered canal along Jefferson Avenue in New Orleans. The work also includes clearing and grubbing, excavation, site dewatering and groundwater monitoring, sewer- and water-line relocation and tie-ins, driving timber piling, sheet-pile installation and coffer-dam construction, and maintenance and diversion of stormwater. Texas MAPP Construction has been selected by Caddis Partners to build the Heartis Eagle Mountain assisted-living center in Fort Worth. Wisconsin Premier Design & Build Group has started construction of the first phase of the Mayfair Collection shopping center at the Burleigh Triangle area in Wauwatosa. The first phase entails the demolition of the former Roundy's warehouse complex and the creation of 270,330 sq ft of retail space, including some renovated warehouse space and some new buildings. Kentucky 8/30 The City of Owensboro is seeking requests for proposals from architectural firms interested in designing the renovation of the International Bluegrass Music Center, a museum. The project entails recladding the stone facade; interior demolition and redesign of 64,000 sq ft, including performance spaces; and converting a parking lot into an outdoor amphitheater with a capacity for 2,000 people.
