Illinois Parkview Developers LLC is planning to build Out Chicago, a LGBT-focused hotel in East Lakeview, Chicago's Boystown neighborhood. The project entails building an eight-floor, 61,000-sq-ft, 112-room hotel at 3300 N. Halsted St. It will feature a gym, rooftop lounge and bar, which will be encased in glass to reduce noise for neighbors, and a 3,000-sq-ft atrium with a waterfall feature. Koo and Associates is the designer. The project has been valued at between $10 million and $15 million. Maryland CSX Transportation is planning to build an intermodal container transfer facility at the Mount Clare Yard in South Baltimore. The facility will transfer double-stack cargo containers on trains leaving the Port of Baltimore. Construction may begin in late 2013 and be completed by 2015. Arkansas The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a firm-fixed-price, option-filled contract with a maximum value of $20.9 million to The Ross Group Construction Corp. to construct a fuel- maintenance hangar at Little Rock Air Force Base. The job entails the construction of a two-bay fuels-maintenance hangar with a reinforced-concrete drilled pier foundation and structural slab on grade, a structural-steel superstructure, insulated metal siding and a sloped-standing seam metal roof. It also includes the demolition of two substandard B-58 Hustler nose docks and two small buildings, the construction of 50 parking spaces, and the relocation of a deicer storage facility. Colorado GH Phipps Construction Cos., the construction manager-at-risk, has started renovating the middle wing of the Ekeley Sciences Building at the University of Colorado's Boulder campus. The project involves the total rehabilitation of 21,660 sq ft of the basement's first and second levels, including demolition and renovation of instructional and research laboratories and support offices. The work also includes stained-concrete floor finishes, storefront glazing systems and major mechanical upgrades to support 80 to 85 new fume hoods in the lab spaces. North Dakota Howard Immel Inc. has started construction of a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Grand Forks. The project involves the construction of a 160,000-sq-ft building with green building elements, including roof-mounted solar panels, a bioswale and pervious pavement. Ohio Kokosing Construction has started building a replacement bridge to carry the Indiana & Ohio Railway over Interstate 75 in Saint Bernard. The Ohio Dept. of Transportation is the project owner. The work entails building a two-span, steel-girder bridge with a steel-ballasted deck on a reinforced-concrete substructure. The spans will be 176 ft and 135 ft long. New York 8/22 The New York City Transit Authority is seeking general-contractor bidders for the renewal of five elevated subway stations in Queens. The project entails the repair or replacement of mezzanine-to-platform stairs and, as required, mezzanine floors, doors, windows, and interior and exterior walls and canopies. Each station must be painted. The stations, located in Woodhaven or Ozone Park, are at 80th Street, 88th Street, Rockaway Boulevard, 104th Street and 111th Street on the IND Liberty line. Alabama 9/12 The Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham is seeking general-contractor bidders to build phase two of the cottages at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. The project entails the construction of three 10,000-sq-ft metal-stud and brick-veneer buildings, two smoking shelters, a gazebo, and a landscaped courtyard and sidewalks leading to the Rehab-Recreation Building. Arizona 9/13 The Arizona Dept. of Transportation is seeking bidders to carry out the Agua Fria Freeway paving project. The work consists of milling the existing asphalt-rubber asphaltic-concrete friction course (AR-ACFC) along a three-mile stretch of state Route 101L, placing new AR-ACFC, and striping and signing work.
