Australia VicRoads, the state highway department of Victoria, is planning to build the Mitcham and Rooks roads rail-separation project in Mitcham, a suburb of Melbourne. The project involves building a new station and lowering the Belgrave-Lilydale rail line to remove traffic conflicts and ease congestion. KBR Corp. is serving as project engineer. AUstralia Rio Tinto, a mining company, is planning to build the Anketell Port Project in Anketell, a suburb of Perth. The project entails the construction of a 15-kilometer shipping channel, jetties and associated shore-based infrastructure, including a desalination plant, powerplant, conveyors, and road and rail links. The facility will be used to export iron ore from the West Pilbara region. The project received environmental approval from the federal government in May 2013. Chad The U.S. Dept. of State is currently evaluating qualifications from design-build firms seeking to build a new embassy complex in N'Djamena. The project team will build, on a 12.7-acre site, a 100,000-sq-ft chancery, a 28,500-sq-ft general-services office building, an 11,300-sq-ft marine security-guard quarters, vehicle and pedestrian access-control facilities, a utility building and a swimming pool. Mexico Superior Industries International is planning to build an auto-wheel manufacturing plant in Chihuahua. The plant will manufacture between two million and 2.5 million wheels per year. Nigeria Notore Chemical Industries is planning to build a 500-MW gas-fired powerplant at its factory in Onne. The powerplant is being jointly developed by CountourGlobal, an investment firm, and the owner. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2014 and be completed by the third quarter of 2016. The project has been valued at between $300 million and $400 million. Peru Lima Airport Partners is planning to build a new H-shaped terminal complex at the Jorge Chavez International Airport, between the existing runway and a new second runway, which is under construction. Both Arquitectonica and Bechtel Corp. Peru are consultants on the project. No date has been set for construction to start. The project is valued at $100 million. Bids/Contracts/Proposals

India Jacobs Engineering Group has started building a new soda-ash plant for Rohit Surfactants Private Ltd. in Jamnagar. The greenfield plant will produce 1,500 tons per day of light soda ash and 770 tons per day of medium soda ash; the project also includes a 50-MW captive powerplant. Monaco Princess Grace Hospital has selected a project team to design a facility that will consist of two six-story buildings, totaling 968,750 sq ft and containing 400 beds. AECOM was awarded an $85-million contract and will serve as consortium lead and program manager. AIA Associates will serve as the international architect, Natacha Morin Innocenti will serve as the Monaco architect, AIA Ingenierie will complete HVAC design and sustainability, and Tractebel Engineering SA will execute foundations and structural design. First-phase construction is expected to be completed in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in 2026. The estimated construction cost is $860 million. Norway Skanska Norway has started building a subway extension in the Loren neighborhood of Oslo. The project team will construct several tunnel sections, up to 470 meters long; an underground station; roadway alterations and utility relocations. Yemen The U.S. Dept. of State is currently evaluating qualifications from design-build firms seeking to carry out a renovation project at the U.S. Embassy in Sana'a. The project entails renovating an existing eight-story, 25,000-sq-ft Sheraton Hotel to create housing for U.S. diplomats. The upgrades will include mechanical, electrical, fire and elevator systems; security upgrades, including emergency sanctuaries and forced-entry/ballistic windows and doors; a new perimeter wall, and a new vehicle and pedestrian access-control facility.
