Colorado Faestel Properties is planning to build the Vanterra Apartment Complex in Parker. The project comprises nine four-story apartment buildings containing 306 units, four garage buildings, a maintenance building and a clubhouse. The overall project will total 396,634 sq ft. Connecticut A/Z Corp. has started construction of the Dominion Fuel-Cell Project in Bridgeport. FuelCell Energy Inc. will supply five of its Direct FuelCell stationary fuel-cell powerplants, totaling 14.9 MW, and an organic rankine turbine, which converts heat from the fuel cells into additional electricity. The fuel cells employ an electro-chemical process to convert natural gas into electricity. FuelCell Energy will build, operate and maintain the facility under contract to Dominion, a large power company. The project is valued at $65 million. Illinois The Chicago Dept. of Purchases is evaluating bids from contractors seeking to build the Bloomingdale Park and Multi-Use Trail Project. The project entails converting an abandoned 2.7-mile-long Canadian Pacific Railway viaduct into a linear park that traverses the Wicker Park, Bucktown, Humboldt Park and Logan Square neighborhoods on the northwest side of Chicago. The 13-acre park will include 13 ADA-compliant access points. The work will include extensive landscaping, seating, signage and miradors, or projections over the street at key points, for better views. The project has been valued at $53.7 million. Mississippi L&A Contracting Co. is upgrading the West Pier Wharf in Gulfport. The three-phase job entails upgrading a 3,700-ft wharf section on the west pier to accommodate future rail-mounted, ship-to-shore cranes. The project owner is the Mississippi State Port Authority. Oregon The Oregon Dept. of Transportation has awarded an $8-million contract to LaDuke Construction for the first phase of the Newberg-Dundee Bypass project. The first phase consists of building embankments for bridge approaches on the route, which will extend from Highway 219 in Newberg to Highway 99W south of Dundee. The overall project entails a controlled-access expressway to reduce traffic congestion on Highway 99W. ODOT plans to award three more major contracts over the next three years. Texas HCA North Texas has awarded a $60-million contract to Brasfield & Gorrie to build the vertical expansion and renovation of the HCA Medical City Hospital in Dallas. The project comprises a 160,307-sq-ft, four-story vertical expansion above the existing emergency department and ambulance drop-off, creating 34 intensive-care beds and 46 medical/surgical beds. The job also includes a 68,576-sq-ft phased interior renovation of multiple campus departments, including surgery, medical oncology, surgical oncology, stem cell, and the emergency-department and cardiac-diagnostic unit. Virginia New Atlantic Contracting has started construction of the New College Foundation Academic Building in Martinsville. The project entails the construction of a three-story, 50,000-sq-ft building. The project's value has been estimated vat $11 million. Washingtnec 7/2 The Washington State Division of Engineering & Architectural Services is seeking builders to construct the STEM Project and Associated 500 Building Renovation. The project team will construct a new three- or four-story, 70,000-sq-ft classroom building to consolidate the science and math programs at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen. Florida 9/12 The Florida Dept. of Transportation is seeking design-build bidders to carry out the State Route 23 South Road Improvement Project in Clay and Duval counties. The project consists of improvements to the state Route 23 toll road from state Route 21 (Blanding Boulevard) to north of Argyle Forest Boulevard; slip ramps to the Branan Field-Frontage roads; a six-lane urban reconstruction of Blanding Boulevard; construction of twin overpass structures over Trail Ridge Road and Old Jennings Road; construction of a new bridge and widening another bridge over the South Prong Double Branch; and construction of electronic toll gantries, lighting and an ITS system.
