China CapitalMalls Asia Ltd. is planning to build the Century Plaza South Tower. Located in an industrial park in Suzhou, the 729-meter-tall, 1.3-million-sq-ft building will have 147 floors. Nikken Sekkei Ltd. and Benoy Architects will be the designers, and Jiangsu Zhongnan Construction Group Co. Ltd. will be the general contractor. The project has been valued at $121 million. England Property Group Partners and WR Berkley Corp. are planning to build The Scalpel, an office and retail tower in London. On the site at 52-54 Lime St., the project team will demolish three existing buildings and erect a 38-story, 638,000-sq-ft building. Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates is the designer. General-contractor negotiations are down to two firms, Skanska and Mace Group Ltd. Construction is expected to begin in 2013 and be completed in 2017. England The Carlyle Group is planning to build the Blackfriar Bridge mixed-use development in the Southwark section of London, on the south bank of the Thames. The project will consist of nine buildings, ranging from five to 48 stories tall, and totaling 1.4 million sq ft. It will include 940,000 sq ft of residential space, 450,000 sq ft of office space, 25,000 sq ft of retail and 18,500 sq ft of cultural space, including a cultural pavilion on the river's edge. The public spaces will include a central square, gardens and children's areas. PLP Architecture Ltd. is the designer. Construction is expected to be completed in phases, between 2020 and 2023. India Odisha Power Generation Corp. Ltd. is planning to build a coal-fired powerplant in Banhairpali. The project team will build a 1,320-MW plant consisting of two 660-MW supercritical generating units and a dedicated rail corridor. Israel RFR Holding Corp. and Starwood Hotels and Resorts will build a W Hotel in Jaffa. The project team will convert a four-story building, built in 1879, into a 125-room hotel and erect a new six-story, 38-unit apartment building. Expected to open in spring 2015, the hotel will include a fitness center, outdoor pool, bar and spa. The project's value has been estimated at between $30 million and $35 million. Japan Wendy's International is planning to open 100 locations in Japan within the next four years. The restaurants will be owned and operated by its franchisee, Wendy's Japan LLC. Portugal ANA Aeroportos de Portugal S.A. is planning to build a new airport to serve Lisbon. It will be located in Alcochete, a municipality on the Tagus River's south bank. While HOK Group and Arup Group Ltd. have been retained, the design schedule has not yet been determined. Valued at $4.5 billion, the project is on hold pending funding. Turkey Ziraat Bank is planning to build a new headquarters. Comprising two towers totaling 2.1 million sq ft, it will be located in the Istanbul International Financial Centre, a 170-acre mixed-use development straddling the Atasehir and Umraniye districts. Vietnam Samsung Vina Electronics Co. Ltd. Vietnam is planning to build a dormitory for its workers in Bac Ninh province's Yen Phong industrial zone, where it manufactures cell phones. The project comprises 10 buildings containing over 800 apartments to accommodate about 6,000 Samsung employees. Construction is expected to begin in 2013. Germany Fluor Corp. has started construction of a toluene diisocyanate plant in Ludwigshafen for BASF. The single-train plant will produce 300,000 metric tons of TDI per year.
