Colorado Developers Jason Perlmutter & Co. and Hines Development are planning to build 1601 Wewatta, a mixed-use project in Denver. The project entails the construction of a 10-story, 301,552-sq-ft building that will include 284,000 sq ft of office space, 17,000 sq ft of retail space, a 402-space underground parking garage and a 6,000-sq-ft plaza at the corner of 16th and Wewatta streets. Louisiana Artspace Projects Inc. is planning to convert the Bell School's six-building campus in New Orleans' Treme neighborhood into 73 units of affordable live/work space for artists and their families. The project's first phase entails renovating the two largest buildings and creating 45,000 sq ft of green space. The second phase will involve renovating the remaining four buildings. North Carolina The Charlotte Area Transit System is planning to extend the Lynx Blue Line commuter-train service north to the University of North Carolina. The job entails building a 9.3-mile rail line from Seventh Street in uptown Charlotte to North Tryon Street. The overall project is valued at $531.9 million. Charlotte Area Transit System, 600 E. Michigan Walbridge Aldinger Co. has started converting the David Whitney Building, located at 1553 Woodward Ave. in Detroit, into a hotel and apartments. The David Whitney Building, erected in 1915, was formerly an office building with a four-story retail atrium. The project team will convert the 250,000-sq-ft, 19-story building into a 135-room Aloft hotel with 108 apartments and ground-floor retail. The developer is the Roxbury Group. New York Pine Builders Corp. has started constructing an apartment building in Brooklyn. The project team will construct an eight-story, 120,735-sq-ft building at 22 Caton Place in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood. The building will contain 85 units and 55 parking spaces. Virginia The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded an $80.5-million design-build contract to a joint venture of CDM Smith, Coakley Williams, AECOM, Athena Construction and Southland Industries to carry out the Marine Corps University Research Center addition and Academic Instruction Facility project in Quantico. The job entails building a 177,000-sq-ft addition that will contain classrooms and an archival storage facility. The schedule also includes a 225,000-sq-ft parking garage. Oregon 4/1 Oregon State University is seeking subcontractor bidders to build Austin Hall on the Corvallis campus. The project team will construct a four-story, 100,000-sq-ft building that will house the College of Business, tiered classrooms, virtual meeting spaces featuring cutting-edge technology, a 250-seat lecture hall, rooms for collaborative teams, faculty offices and a cafe. California 4/5 The Corps of Engineers is seeking design-build bidders to build "unaccompanied enlisted personnel" housing barracks at the Presidio of Monterey. Utah 4/16 The Central Utah Water Conservancy District is seeking bidders to carry out the Utah Valley Water Treatment Plant improvement project in Orem. The project involves the construction of an ozonation building, modification and expansion of existing flocculation basins, new enclosed sedimentation basins with inclined plate settlers, sludge thickeners, a mechanical dewatering belt-press facility, a chemical storage building, and improvements to existing solar drying beds and overflow basins.
