Alabama Imperium Energy LLC is planning to build a materials recycling facility in Montgomery. The project entails constructing a building that will process at least 100,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year. It will employ equipment using both magnets and optical sorters; a portion of the material stream will be hand-sorted. Bulk Handling Systems has been retained by Imperium to design and build the recycling facility. Construction is expected to start in April 2013 and be completed in summer 2014. District of Columbia The Trump Organization is planning to convert the Old Post Office Pavilion into a luxury hotel that will have more than 250 rooms, restaurants and conference facilities. The 414,000-sq-ft Romanesque Revival-style edifice, built in 1899, is 10 stories tall (not including its 315-ft-tall clock tower) and currently houses a retail arcade. It is located at the intersection of 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The hotel will be designed by Beyer Blinder Belle. The project is valued at between $15 million and $50 million. Missouri The National Blues Museum is planning to open at 601 Washington Ave. in the Mercantile Exchange District of downtown St. Louis. The project entails renovating the 23,000-sq-ft ground floor of an existing mixed-use building; the renovation will include 16,000 sq ft of exhibit space, a classroom and a small theater. New York FAGE USA Dairy is planning to build a yogurt plant in Johnstown. The project entails the construction of a two-story, 120,000-sq-ft building. LeChase Construction has been selected as the construction manager. Construction is expected to begin in March 2013 and be completed by February 2014. The project is valued at $100 million. Louisiana The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $46.2-million, firm-fixed-price contract to Cajun Constructors Inc. for the construction of a concrete covered canal in New Orleans. The project entails building 3,700 ft of canal along Jefferson Avenue and 1,300 ft of canal along Prytania Street. The work consists of clearing and grubbing, excavation, site unwatering and groundwater monitoring, driving sheet piling, foundation jet-grouting, utility relocation, maintenance and diversion of storm water, construction of the covered canal, streetcar rail and electrical construction, traffic control, asphalt roadwork, and fertilizing and seeding. North Dakota The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $12.9-million, firm-fixed-price contract to Construction Engineers Inc. to build a border patrol station in Pembina. The project entails building a 15,500-sq-ft, 50-agent station and a 16,000-sq-ft parking garage. The station will include office space, detainee processing and holding areas, locker rooms, restrooms, storage areas and a kennel. The job also includes roadways, security fencing, storage tanks, a helipad and a communications tower. Construction is expected to be completed by October 2014. oREgON 2/23 The City of Bend is seeking bidders to carry out the secondary expansion of its sewage treatment plant. The project entails construction of a new primary influent splitter box, a primary clarifier, a primary pump station, an aeration basin, a blower building, a primary effluent ultraviolet-disinfection facility and a hypchlorite storage facility. The project also includes modifications to existing yard piping and the backup power generation system. The project has been valued at $32 million. Wyoming 2/22 The Natrona County School District No. 1 is seeking subcontractor bidders for Kelly Walsh High School in Casper. The project entails the demolition of the existing facility and construction of a new two-story, 250,000-sq-ft building. The project has been valued at between $15 million and $25 million. Colorado 3/7 The Colorado Dept. of Transportation is seeking bidders to carry out a highway-resurfacing and bridge-repair project. The job entails resurfacing 12.5 miles ofInterstate 70 in Eagle County, from mile marker 147 to mile marker 159.5. The work includes 2-in. planing and hot-mix-asphalt overlay of the main-line drive lanes, interchange ramps, and bridge approach slabs and decks as well as bridge-joint repair and guardrail upgrades.
