Hawaii DeBartolo Development LLC is planning to build the Ka Makana Ali'I Shopping Mall in East Kapolei on the island of Oahu. The first phase of the project entails building a 200,681-sq-ft building. Construction is expected to begin in early 2013 and be completed in 2014. Nevada The city of Henderson is planning to build the northern phase of the Union Pacific Railroad Trail. The six-mile-long northern segment of the trail will extend the pathway northwest past downtown, through the edge of the industrial park, where the PEPCON chemical plant explosion and fire took place in 1988. The blast left two dead and caused $100 million in damage. The line will extend into residential areas on the border with Las Vegas. The northern segment is expected to be completed in late 2013. North Carolina The Charlotte Knights Baseball Club is planning to build a new stadium at the corner of Graham St. and 4th St. in downtown Charlotte. The project entails building a three-level, 11,048-seat, 170,000-sq-ft stadium. The stadium is being designed by Odell Associates Inc. A joint venture of Barton Malow Co., R.J. Leeper Co. Inc. and Rodgers Builders is serving as construction manager. The Knights are a Triple A club affiliated with the Chicago White Sox. Mecklenburg County is contributing $8 million of the overall cost for infrastructure improvements. The project is valued at $54 million. The stadium is expected to be ready for the 2014 season. Texas BNSF Railway Co. and U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. will jointly build and run a major warehousing operation in Southwest Bexar County to store sand for fracking operations to extract oil and gas from the Eagle Ford Shale formation. The 290-acre facility will store up to 15,000 tons of sand. BNSF will haul up to 40,000 tons of silica sand to the site monthly from U.S. Silica sites in Ottawa and Rochelle, Ill.
