California The California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation has selected URS to manage the design and construction of a 1.2 million-sq-ft correctional health-care facility in Stockton. The facility will treat 2,870 inmates with chronic medical and mental health needs. URS will provide comprehensive project management services for each phase of the project, including design-builder procurement, project controls and construction management. URS currently is assisting CDCR with the development of two design-build solicitation packages: site development ($150 million) and housing/medical facilities ($500 million). District Of Columbia The developers Hines and Archstone have selected a joint venture comprising Clark Construction Group and Smoot Construction as general contractors to build CityCenterDC, a large mixed-use development. CityCenterDC will be a 10-acre development on a site bounded by New York Avenue, Ninth Street, H Street and 11th Street N.W. The first phase, valued at $700 million, will comprise six buildings ranging up to 11 stories tall, with three levels of underground parking and 1,555 parking spaces. Maryland The University of Maryland has selected TRO Jung/Brannen to design a replacement neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Massachusetts The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has awarded a contract for program management and construction management of the Green Line extension project to the HDR/Gilbane Team, a joint venture of HDR Engineering Inc. and Gilbane Building Co. The project will extend the Green Line from the existing Lechmere Station to Medford, Mass. The extension's two branch lines will total five miles in length. Texas Caterpillar has selected Clayco Inc. as the design-builder for a hydraulic excavator plant in Victoria. The project entails building a 900,000-sq-ft building for subassembly, assembly, painting and final inspections of various models of hydraulic excavators.
