DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA The U.S. General Services Administration is serving as consultant on the Commons and Health Center at the Armed Forces Retirement Home campus at 3700 N. Capitol St. This project entails building a 162,000-sq-ft skilled-nursing facility for 36 long-term care residents and 24 memory-care residents. It will consist of clusters serving 12 residents, with common living and dining rooms. It also involves the demolition of a 350,000-sq-ft building. DiMella Shaffer Architects served as the bridging architect. GSA expects to award the design-build contract in early 2011. The estimated construction cost is between $50 million and $55 million. MICHIGAN Developer Grand Traverse Hotel Properties LLC is planning to build Hotel Indigo in Traverse City, on a site between Garland St. and Grandview Parkway. Demolition of three existing buildings on the site is expected to begin in January 2011. The demolition contractor will be chosen shortly. The 112,000-sq-ft building will include 97 hotel rooms, 10 residential extended stay units, a restaurant, rooftop lounge, spa, and underground parking. Construction is projected to begin in March or April, 2011, and be completed in the spring of 2012. The general contractor will be J S Capitol Construction Inc. UTAH Adobe Systems Inc. has selected Okland Construction to build the first phase of their new campus in Lehi . Gardner Co. will act as the developer of the campus, to be constructed on a 32-acre site. WRNS Studio, based in San Francisco, is designing the campus. Plans call for the first phase, which will consist of multiple buildings totaling about 280,000 sq ft, to break ground in April or May, 2011, and be completed by October, 2012. CALIFORNIA The University of California, Merced has selected EHDD Architecture to provide architectural and engineering services for the student housing Phase IV project . The project includes approximately 110,000-sq-ft of student dormitory space in the Summits Housing complex. Required work includes specialized energy modeling to accurately predict building energy consumption. The project goal is LEED Gold certification. FLORIDA The Orange County Public Schools is seeking qualifications for construction management-at-risk services for the replacement of the Little River Elementary School . The project includes a 90,000-sq-ft campus with a retention pond and stormwater drainage system, administrative suites, a media center, as well as art and music rooms. FLORIDA Pinellas County has selected Harvard Jolly, Inc. to provide design services for a public safety facilities and centralized communications center to include the county’s emergency operations center, sheriff’s administrative and operational headquarters and back-up data center for the county’s information technology. MISSOURI The Special Administrative Board of the St. Louis Public School District has selected Kwame Building Group to provide construction management-for-fee services for $155 million in repair and improvement projects district-wide . Kwame will team with four subconsultants to carry out the program — Jacobs Engineering Group; Arcturis; Hudson and Associates; and PGAV Planners. The projects include upgrades to classrooms, labs, libraries, auditoriums, cafeterias, restrooms, sports facilities, playgrounds and parking areas. NEW JERSEY The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has warded a $14.1-million firm-fixed-price contract to Boro Developers Inc., to build an Armed Forces Reserve Center in Camden . The project entails building a 50,000-sq-ft training building, a 6,900-sq-ft vehicle maintenance shop, and a 1,200-sq-ft unheated storage building. NORTH CAROLINA Alexandria Real Estate Equities, a developer, has awarded KBR’s Building Group a $19-million contract to build a 90,000-sq-ft vaccine research and production facility and greenhouse for Medicago .
