CALIFORNIA San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG), the transportation planning agency for San Bernardino County, is overseeing a grade separation project called Colton Crossing. The Union Pacific east-west tracks currently meet the BNSF line’s north-south tracks at grade, requiring trains to idle. The crossing is located just south of I-10 in Colton. The project entails building a 1.4-mile-long overpass to carry the Union Pacific tracks over the BNSF tracks. HDR Inc. is handling preliminary engineering and environmental studies. The construction contract bidding will take place in June 2011, with construction expected to start that fall and completion scheduled for September 2013. The estimated construction cost is $208 million. This project is funded partially by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. ARIZONA Buckeye Elementary School District No. 33 has selected CORE Construction Service to provide on-call construction management-at-risk services for various school upgrades and B-Bond projects as well as three new, 73,920-sq-ft schools. ARIZONA The University of Arizona has selected GLHN to provide engineering services for the expansion of the new Arizona Health Sciences Center transformer yard. The project will house two 30/40/50-MVA transformers and associated 46-kV and 13.8-kV switchgear equipment. The estimated construction cost is between $12.5 million and $13.5 million. ARKANSAS The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an $11.9-million firm-fixed-price contract to TL Enterprises Inc. to build a flood-control pump station at Little Bayou Meto. This project is part of a flood-control project for the Bayou Meto Basin of the Arkansas River in Jefferson County. The project is expected to be completed by January 2013. CALIFORNIA The Metro Gold Line Construction Authority has selected Skanska USA to provide design-build-finance services for the freeway structure and barrier replacement project, part of the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension. The project entails double-track light rail, retaining walls and replacement of barrier rail along the eastbound and westbound sides of I-210 freeway. The estimated construction cost is $25 million. CALIFORNIA The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency has selected Lennar Urban to provide project management and development services for the build-out of a 260,000-sq-ft building in the Hunters Point Shipyard. The project includes a temporary utility system, a full seismic upgrade, replacement of roofing and windows and environmental abatement services. FLORIDA The U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs has awarded Brasfield & Gorrie LLC a $260.3-million contract to complete the construction of the new Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona. This sixth and final contract covers the construction of a 134-bed hospital, diagnostic and treatment area, outpatient area and connecting atrium. The center is slated to open in late 2012. GUAM The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded a maximum $40-million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to SSFM International Inc. for construction management services services on Guam. The work to be performed includes construction oversight and quality-assurance services to support construction projects undertaken by Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas. INDIANA The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded a $12.1-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract to Can’t Be Beat Fence & Construction LLC for a two-story, 43,217-sq-ft addition to the existing Strategic Weapons Building, located at the Navy’s Strategic Weapons Systems Engineering Facility in Crane. The facility will house labs with several special features: 400-Hz power, a dry-air/nitrogen distribution system and isolation pads. The project also includes demolition of five existing buildings—totaling 19,280 sq ft—which may contain hazardous materials such as asbestos and explosive residue. NEW MEXICO The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $9.9-million firm-fixed-price contract to Mesa Verde Enterprises Inc. for airfield paving at Holloman Air Force Base. The project entails paving of two separate areas: the parallel taxiway and the live ordnance load area. The project is expected to be completed by December 2011. NEW YORK Brookhaven National Laboratory has awarded E.W. Howell a $34-million contract to build three Laboratory Office Buildings that will be part of the National Synchrotron Light Source II project. The three buildings will total 124,000 sq ft of lab and office space, including wet labs, dry labs and fabrication/assembly shops. NORTH CAROLINA The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded an $11.1-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract to Team Enviro Joint Venture II for a pre-trial detainee facility at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The facility will include confinement cells, detainee and staff showers, administrative areas, visiting areas, dining areas, religious areas and a library. TEXAS The Allen Independent School District has selected Pogue Construction to build a new stadium for Allen High School. TEXAS The Deer Park Independent School District has selected Brae Burn Construction to provide construction management-at-risk services for renovations and additions to elementary schools and other facilities. This project entails constructing the Euclid Creek Storage Tunnel using a tunnel-boring machine through bedrock at a depth of 190 ft to 220 ft. It will be 18,000 ft long, with a finished diameter of 24 ft. Several of the consolidation sewers will be constructed using trenchless and open-cut methods. The project includes several drop shafts to receive combined sewer overflows from existing tributary outfalls. The project is valued at $213.6 million.
