ILLINOIS JRM Technology LLC is planning to build a six-story, 315,000-sq-ft data center at 111 E. Cermak Rd. in Chicago. James McHugh Construction Co. has been chosen as the design-build contractor, with ESD Inc. as lead architect/engineer. The building will be reinforced concrete, with 18-ft ceilings, heavy floor loading, space for full generator backups and heavy-duty, high-efficiency cooling systems. It will aim to achieve LEED-certified Gold and will include a green roof and fresh air cooling. Construction is expected to begin during fall 2010 and be completed by late 2011. NEW MEXICO The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Hensel Phelps Construction Co. a $32.8-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract to build a fuel cell and corrosion-control hangar at Cannon Air Force Base. The project entails design and construction of a 32,087-sq-ft fuel-cell hangar and a 57,674-sq-ft corrosion-control hangar, including all associated sitework, antiterrorism-force protection requirements, parking lots, airfield ramps and an underground electrical duct bank to the substation. NORTH CAROLINA The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded Bristol Design Build Services LLC a $14.8-million firm-fixed-price contract for construction of a multipurpose machine gun range at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The project includes relocation of an engineering training area and an explosive-ordinance disposal site. The range consists of 24 firing positions on an eight-lane raised firing line; 144 stationary infantry targets, 10 infantry moving targets and 15 hostile flight simulators. The project includes a breakdown building, a covered bleacher enclosure, a target storage building, a covered mess, a vehicular holding areas, a bivouac area, classroom and maintenance buildings and a magazine shelter. The project is expected to be completed by November 2011. SOUTH CAROLINA The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded Suffolk Construction Co. WASHINGTON 5/20 The State of Washington, Dept. of Transportation, is seeking qualifications for design-build services for improvements to approximately 2.5 miles of state Route 520, from west of Evergreen Point Road to east of 108th Avenue N.E. The project includes widening the corridor and the addition of a bicycle lane/pedestrian path as well as construction of new transit stops, access ramps for transit and HOV and fish-passable culverts. Work also includes stream and wetland improvements, noise walls and stormwater treatment facilities. Construction cost is between $325 million to $425 million.
