CALIFORNIA Clark Design/Build of California has been awarded a $430.8-million contract by Alameda County for the Highland Hospital Acute Tower replacement. The project’s first phase entails a three-story, 78,000-sq-ft medical office building atop a 176-space parking structure. Phase two entails a 9-story, 169-bed acute care tower. Phase three will involve demolishing the existing tower and building connecting structures. The project is expected to take seven years. FLORIDA Ajax Building Corp. has been selected by the University of North Florida to provide construction-management services for the new science and humanities building. FLORIDA Perkins + Will has been selected by Florida International University to provide architectural/engineering services for the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, Miami-Dade County Health Dept. and the Ambulatory Care Center on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus. The college of public health and social work will comprise 62,704 sq ft, including site infrastructure. CALIFORNIA 2/3 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, dam control structure. The Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway control structure is a reinforced-concrete gravity structure about 150 ft high. The structure will comprise two 89-ft-wide independent flow-through monoliths flanked by three solid monoliths. Each flow-through monolith will house three 24-ft x 34-ft submerged tainter gates. Each of the tainter gates will have its own steel bulkhead gate and hoist assembly. The project entails excavation to final grade, mass concrete placement, and procurement and installation of the submerged tainter gates and bulkhead gates.
