NEW YORK The Albany Convention Center Authority is planning to build a new downtown convention center. The agency recently revealed the design for the brick-and-glass structure, developed by architect HNTB. The 296,500-sq-ft building will include a main exhibition hall, two ballrooms and other meeting spaces. It will be located near where Broadway meets Hudson Avenue, with loading docks beneath the South Mall arterial road. Estimated construction cost is $220 million. CALIFORNIA Korte Construction Co. has been selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District to provide design-build services for a 37,500-sq-ft child development center at Beale Air Force Base in Roseville. CALIFORNIA AECOM Technology Corp. has won a $10.5-million task order to provide energy-efficiency services at an undisclosed U.S. Navy facility in San Diego. The project will include a base-wide lighting retrofit, construction of two new central chilled-water plants, expansion of the existing energy-management control system and installation of a photovoltaic system. COLORADO Arviso Construction Co. Inc. has been selected by the Army Contracting Agency to provide design-build services for a 26,450-sq-ft child development center at Fort Carson, in El Paso County. FLORIDA Greenhut Construction Co. LOUISIANA Kiewit Louisiana Co. has been awarded a $194.5-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a hurricane-protection project. The project entails fronting protection and breakwater modification along Lake Ponchartrain’s Jefferson lakefront, as well as Pumping Stations Nos. 1 through 4, in Jefferson Parish. MASSACHUSETTS Lee Kennedy Co. Inc. has been awarded a $16.4-million construction-management-at-risk contract by the National Archives and Records Administration to build an addition to the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston. The project entails renovating 20,000 sq ft of the existing facility and building a two-story, 30,000-sq-ft addition. MISSOURI Kwame Building Group has been awarded a contract through Green Companies Inc. to provide design-management support on a landfill gas-to-energy project at the Fred Weber Co. Solid Waste Landfill in Maryland Heights. Kwame will provide design-management support on the Ameren UE methane gas-to-energy project. Construction will begin in 2010, and the plant is expected to be operational in 2011. The project will deliver methane from the landfill to combustion turbines through a blower plant that delivers 6,000 cu ft of landfill gas per minute. NEW MEXICO Summit Builders has been awarded a $32.5-million contract by the New Mexico Spaceport Authority to build a terminal/hangar facility. The three-story, 110,000-sq-ft facility will house the headquarters for Virgin Galactic, the passenger terminal for space tourists and storage for the spacecraft.
