MINNESOTA The Duluth City Council has voted to build a new police headquarters. TEXAS Texas A&M University has announced plans to build a four-story, 107,000-sq-ft humanities building. It will house the English and performance studies departments. CONNECTICUT KBE Ventures, a joint venture of KBE Building Corp. and Derita Construction Co., has been awarded a $51.5-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract for an Armed Forces Reserve Center in Middletown, Conn. NEW JERSEY The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has awarded a $321-million contract to a consortium led by Siemens to upgrade the signal system for the PATH transit system, which serves several New Jersey communities as well as New York City. The consortium consists of Siemens Transportation Systems, Safetran Systems Corp. and D/A Builders LLC, a joint venture of Daidone Electric Inc. and Aldridge Electric Inc. The project entails designing, manufacturing and installing signals, signal cable and the communications system along all 43 miles of track in the system, most of it underground. PENNSYLVANIA Daniel J. Keating Co. has been awarded a $13.3-million contract by the Federal Aviation Administration to build a new air-traffic-control tower and terminal radar-approach-control base building at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Keating will replace the airport’s 1960 control tower with a new precast-concrete and steel tower that will reach 92 ft high. The tower’s base building will be 11,614 sq ft. TEXAS Guyco Inc., Lampasas, has been awarded an $89.2-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for renovation of the VOLAR barracks and central energy plant at Fort Hood. Renovation will include extensive engineering analysis, evaluation and testing, and use of those findings to resolve mold growth issues, minimize vapor transmission and improve energy efficiency.
