ARKANSAS Baptist Memorial Medical Care Corp. is planning a 250-bed, five-story, 500,000-sq-ft hospital in Jonesboro, to replace NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. Bids are expected to be let in spring 2010, construction is expected to start by mid-2010. The project is valued at $200 million. WASHINGTON The Washington State Dept. of Transportation is seeking design-build services for the Alaskan Way Viaduct improvement project in Seattle. The project includes a 9,100-ft-long, 52-ft-dia bored tunnel, retaining walls, connecting roadway structures and vent-building foundations. The tunnel will extend from First Avenue South, between Charles and Dearborn, and terminate at State Route 99 near John Street. The estimated project cost is $1 billion. GEORGIA Carothers Construction Inc. was awarded a $32.5-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a vehicle maintenance instruction facility at Fort Benning, Ga. The project entails building a 185,500-sq-ft facility, vehicle parking, a security building, utilities, access roads, parking lot and sewer system. HAWAII Nan, Inc. has been awarded a $39.8-million firm-fixed-price design-build contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for two bachelor enlisted quarters at Marine Corps Base, Hawaii. The project entails two buildings of 88 rooms and 62 rooms, of reinforced concrete or masonry construction. The buildings will not exceed five stories and will include laundry facilities, lounges, duty officer quarters and bunk rooms. LOUISIANA Tetra-Tech EC Inc. was awarded a $33.2-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Hurricane Protection Office, for levee upgrades and floodwalls. The work consists of demolition and replacement of floodwalls, fabrication and replacement of floodwall gates, driving piles, earthwork to upgrade levees, upgrading roadwork and utility installations for Lake Ponchartrain and vicinity. MARYLAND Clark Construction Group LLC was awarded a $230-million firm-fixed-price contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, in Aberdeen. The building will total 526,255 sq ft. The project includes medical gas utilities, conventional utilities, electrical services, including emergency power generation, parking, fencing, storm drainage, fire protection and alarm systems, and landscaping. The estimated completion is February 2013. MISSOURI River City Construction LLC has been awarded a $19.6-million contract by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs to build a new surgical suite and also renovate portions of the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia. The project entails building a 27,000-sq-ft surgical suite containing five operating rooms and also renovating 10,000 sq ft of existing space for surgical support.The contractor has three years to complete the project. NEW MEXICO  RMA Land Construction Inc., has been awarded an $8 million firm-fixed-price design-build contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a child development center at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis. The one-story, 23,304-sq-ft facility will serve 158 children.  The project includes demolition of an obsolete 9,000-sq-ft child development center. TEXAS Huckabee & Associates Inc. has been selected by Bonham Independent School District to provide design services for bond-funded projects. VIRGINIA HITT Contracting Inc. has been awarded a $33.8-million contract by the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority to build the new Amherst County Adult Detention Center in Madison Heights.
