ALASKA Transcanada Corp. has awarded URS Corp. a contract to provide studies and conceptual design work for a natural-gas treatment plant to be located in Prudhoe Bay. CALIFORNIA Straub Construction Co. has been awarded a $25-million firm- fixed price order by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest, under a multiple-award construction contract for the rehabilitation and renovation of two military instructional buildings at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey. MICHIGAN The Mich. Dept. of Transportation has awarded a contact to Parsons Brinckerhoff to design the reconstruction of the Interstate-64/I-94 interchange in Detroit. PB will be responsible for the concept and final designs, overall project management as well as constructibility reviews. The project involves the complete replacement of the entire interchange, including four miles of freeway and eight bridges. OREGON Hatch Mott MacDonald was awarded a contract by the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon to provide preliminary engineering and consultant services for the Portland- Milwaukie Light Rail Project, East Segment. TENNESSEE The Tennessee Valley Authority has awarded a $292-million contract to URS Corp. to provide engineering, procurement, construction, startup and commissioning services for the upgrade of generating capacity at the Gleason Combustion Turbine Plant in Weakley County. The project, to be completed over a three-year period, is designed to shift the plant from peaking to intermediate usage. It calls for an additional 360 MW of generating capacity to the 540-MW plant, and will involve the construction of a new steam turbine block and the conversion of the plant to combined- cycle operation. VIRGINIA The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, has selected Tompkins Builders, a wholly owned subsidiary of Turner Construction Co., to manage construction of the $90-million Training and Doctrine Command Headquarters (TRADOC) at Fort Eustis in Newport News. The project consists of a two-story, 264,000-sq-ft structural- steel frame headquarters and a 18,000-sqft band building facility, as well as assorted site work. The facility is being designed to seek LEED Silver certification.
