MASSACHUSETTS The city of Boston has received a proposal from Raymond Property Co. to demolish the 11story Government Center Garage located between New Chardon and New Sudbury Streets and build two office towers, 42 and 52 stories tall, in its place. At 710 ft, the taller of the two towers would be one of the tallest buildings in Boston. The project would involve over 3 million sq ft of development space and would also include a hotel, condominiums and retail space. MINNESOTA The Minnesota Dept. of Transportation has announced the first round of lowest bids for road and bridge projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The 11 projects are part of the batch of 60 state highway projects totaling $180 million that MnDOT announced in February. The bids announced total approximately $40 million, and involve both mill and overlay of roads as well as guardrail replacements and new signage on highways and bridges. NEVADA Martin Harris Construction was awarded a $42-million contract for the construction of two new firehouses on the Nevada Test Site by the National Nuclear Security Administration and National Security Technologies. One firehouse will be located in the restricted test site town of Mercury and the other will be about 22 miles north of Mercury, on the test site grounds. VIRGINIA Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. was awarded a $55.5-million contract by the city council of Alexandria for the construction of a new police headquarters. The 124,000-sq-ft, four-story facility will provide room for up to 502 staff members, with a parking lot for 550 vehicles.
