Denver-based Brundage-Bone Concrete Pumping Inc., which says it is the largest U.S. concrete-pumping firm, has hired Gary Bernardez as chief operating officer. He is formerly senior vice president of global services for Fluor Corp., Irving, Texas, and also had been president of its AMECO integrated equipment unit. Brundage-Bone was acquired last August by an affiliate of Peninsula Pacific Strategic Partners LLC, a Los Angeles investment firm.

The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), a Washington, D.C.-based trade group for more than 300 public sewerage agencies and related companies, has elevated Adam Krantz to CEO, effective on Aug. 1. He will succeed Ken Kirk, who is retiring. Krantz is currently managing director of government and public affairs, and joined NACWA in 2001.

Hernandez

George Hernandez has joined Amec Foster Wheeler as president for upstream oil and gas business development based in Houston, the firm says. Hernandez was vice president of operations and upstream O&G business unit general manager at contractor WorleyParsons since 2013. He also was a senior business development executive at Wood Group Mustang.

Peter Oosterveer, Fluor Corp. chief operating officer, has been elected a board director of the U.S.-China Business Council, which the contractor says is a nonprofit commercial trade group made up of executives from 220 U.S. companies seeking to do business in China. The council claims China is “at least” a $350-billion market for U.S. firms. Fluor says it has completed more than 280 projects in China and has 800 employees based there. Ford Motor Corp. CEO Mark Fields is the council’s new chairman.

Saeid Garebaglow has joined New York City-based consultant Faithful+Gould as vice president and lead for its newly formed corporate real estate unit. He had led institutional project management for the Americas at investment bank Morgan Stanley.

Design firm Perkins Eastman has hired Michael F. Maurer as principal, based in Chicago. He had been in the same role prevously at Lessard Design. Maurer is a specialist in high-end hospitality, mixed-use and adaptive reuse projects in the U.S. and Middle East.

ASC Construction Equipment USA Inc., Charlotte, has named Shawn Sweet chief operating officer and vice president. He previously led Volvo Penta’s North American industrial engine business. According to ASC, the firm is one of the largest Volvo construction equipment distributors in North America.

Katsouleas

Thomas C. Katsouleas, dean of engineering at Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering, will join the University of Virginia as executive vice president and provost on July 1. In a statement, the Pratt school says he oversaw a 62% rise in engineering graduate-student enrollment during his seven-year tenure. Katsouleas also is a co-founder of the Grand Challenge Engineers program launched this spring, in which 122 signatory schools have pledged to graduate at least 20 students per year “who have been specially prepared to lead the way in solving such large-scale problems,” says Duke. The effort aims to train more than 20,000 formally recognized graduates in the next decade. “We’re poised to transform the landscape of engineering higher education,” Katsouleas said. “We’ve tapped into something powerful—the very human element connecting engineering with students who want to make a real difference.”

Jim O’Sullivan has been named CEO of Highways England, the government-owned company that will manage what is set to be a record investment of close to $17.5 billion in major roadway upgrades in England by 2020 that will involve more than 100 projects, say U.K. media reports. An engineer, he was managing director of the airports division at Heathrow Airport Ltd., formerly known as BAA, and former managing director of Edinburgh Airport in Scotland.
