Peter Lassetter has joined architect-engineer Thornton Tomasetti, New York City, as senior vice president of its San Francisco-based operation. He had been principal and group leader in that city for Arup. Lassetter also was the lead structural designer for San Francisco’s California Academy of Sciences school project, which gained LEED Platinum certification.

Bowman Consulting, a Chantilly, Va., civil engineering firm, has named Tom LeBeau, Ken Sisk and Jim Nelm senior project managers, following its acquisition of The Vision Group, a Chesapeake, Va.-based engineer and construction management firm owned by LeBeau, Sisk and Nelm.

Patricia Velasquez Griffith has been promoted to vice president of new ventures at Independent Project Analysis Inc., an Ashburn, Va.-based project management consulting firm. She had been regional director in Europe, focusing on extraction and process industries. Before joining the firm, Griffith was a construction manager in El Salvador. The firm also named Mary Ellen Yarossi to replace her. She was founding director of the IPA Institute, the company’s research and education division.

San Francisco-based transportation design firm T.Y. Lin International, has named Max Fajardo vice president. Based in Lin’s Miami office, he had been deputy aviation director for Miami International Airport, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of a system of airports in Miami Dade County.

Sordoni Construction Services Inc., Forty Fort, Pa., has elevated William E. Sordoni to president. He succeeds his father, William B. Sordoni, who becomes vice chairman. Since joining the firm in 2007, William E. had been vice president, managing business development and human resources. He previously served as a management consultant with consulting firm Accenture. William B. served as president since 1985. Dino J. Galli also is promoted to vice president of preconstruction from chief estimator.

Capt. Katherine L. Gregory has been selected for promotion to rear admiral (lower half) and named commander of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command’s Pacific operation based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She currently serves as chief of staff for NAVFAC’s naval construction division in Norfolk, Va., and previously commanded its 30th naval construction regiment in Port Hueneme, Calif. Gregory also served as a U.S. Defense Dept. corporate fellow, working with the Southern Co. in Atlanta.

Everett, Mass.-based construction firm BOND, has hired Kevin Noval as director of information technology, a new position. He had been vice president and chief information officer at William A. Berry & Son Inc., Boston, and is currently chairman of the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts’ information technology committee.

Guy Mehula has joined Parsons Corp., Pasadena, Calif., as vice president and program executive. He had been chief facilities executive for the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he oversaw what the company says is a $27-billion school construction program that generated work at more than 200 schools. He is also a retired captain in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps.

AKF Group LLC, a New York City-based engineering firm, has appointed James J. Sebesta principal and leader of its educational market sector. He had been president, CEO and chairman of Sebesta Blomberg & Associates Inc. Consulting Engineers, Minneapolis, a firm he founded in 1994.

Environmental Science Associates, a San Francisco-based environmental consultant, has elevated Eric Ruby to senior vice president and southern California regional director, to chief operating officer. He replaces Dan Wormhoudt, who has retired. The firm also has hired Lloyd Zola as senior vice president and community development practice leader. He had been vice president at HDR Engineering.

Mark Etheridge has been named a vice president in the health and science group of Environmental Systems Design Inc., a Chicago-based design firm. He had been vice president in the Charlotte, N.C., office of Syska Hennessy Group, managing its Southeast region health-care work.

Chandra R. Bhat, the Adan Abou-Ayyash centennial professor of transportation engineering at the University of Texas-Austin, has won the American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s 2009 S.S. Steinberg award. Named for the founding president of ARTBA’s research and education division, it recognizes Bhat’s contributions to the field of transportation education.
