Lewis
LEWIS

United Forming Inc. has named Steve Lewis as CEO. He has been with the Atlanta-based concrete construction firm since 2001, most recently as senior vice president and chief marketing officer.

William C. Siegel is named Kleinfelder's chief executive officer-elect, set to take over from Gerald Salontai next April. Siegel, a 23-year veteran of the San Diego-based engineering firm, is currently senior vice president for corporate development and a company board member. He is also on the boards of the California Geotechnical Engineers Association and the American Council of Engineering Companies in Colorado.

URS, San Francisco, has appointed Leo Sain senior vice president of high-level waste management and integration. He was most recently president of its unit Washington Savannah River Co.

Peter Schwartz has been named president and CEO of the Construction Financial Management Association. He had been CEO of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, and has held executive roles with the National Apartment Association and the American Supply Association. Princeton, N.J.-based CFMA is a 7,000-member non-profit organization serving construction financial professionals.

Evans
EVANS

The Harrisburg, Pa.-based construction group Reynolds has hired Richard H. Evans as president of its energy services unit. He was previously Northeast sales director for TAC Energy Solutions, an integrated building management systems supplier in Carrollton, Texas.

Waterways Council Inc. has named Cornel J. Martin as president and CEO to replace R. Barry Palmer when he retires at the end of 2008. Martin most recently served as CEO and chairman of Direct Workforce Inc., a Houma, La., contract labor firm serving several heavy industries. The Washington, D.C.-based council is a public policy organization for ports and inland waterways.

Thomas F. Gilbane Jr. has been named CEO and president of Gilbane Inc., the holding company for Providence, R.I.-based Gilbane Building Co. and Gilbane Development Co. As CEO, he replaces Paul J. Choquette Jr., who continues as chairman through 2009 and will remain a corporate director. Choquette is a nearly 40-year firm veteran. Gilbane, with the company 38 years, will remain chairman and CEO of Gilbane Building Co. Gilbane Development also promoted Edward Broderick from senior vice president to executive vice president, and Gilbane Building has named Richard Roy senior vice president and corporate controller-treasurer. Gilbane Building also named the following as new vice presidents: Carolyn Pfude, Stephen J. O’Connor, Dennis L. Curl, Brent Ivey, David W. Jolin, and Robert C. Zerbe.

Anderson
ANDERSON

Hunter Roberts Construction Group, New York City, has appointed Paul D. Anderson executive vice president and general manager of the New York business unit. He most recently served as co-chief operations officer for Skanska USA Building Inc. in Atlanta. Chris Carpenito joins the firm as senior vice president and director of finance from a previous role as vice president and controller for Turner Construction. Hunter Roberts also promoted the following to senior vice president: Kevin Barrett, Mark Lamble, Rob Barbera and Dan Dirscherl. Colleen Rugg is also elevated from marketing manager to director of corporate communications.

Louis M. Vele has joined New York City contractor Cauldwell Wingate as senior vice president, purchasing and estimating. He was vice president of estimating for Henegan Construction Co., also based in New York City.

Davis
DAVIS

Richard N. “Dick” Davis, a retired engineer, died on July 29 of cancer at his home in Herndon, Va. He was 82. Davis spent 28 years with Fairfax, Va. engineer-architect Dewberry (formerly Dewberry & Davis), as chief engineer and then principal partner. His projects included the initial extension of the Dulles Toll Road and the Dulles Greenway, and reconstruction of the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park after it burned in 1982. The Richard N. Davis Memorial Fund has been created to support civil engineering students at his alma mater, George Washington University. Contributions can be sent to the School of Engineering, George Washington University, Tompkins Hall, Room 210, 725 23rd Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20052.

Alter
ALTER

William A. “Bill” Alter, a pioneering housing and commercial developer and founder of The Alter Group, Chicago, died on Aug. 8 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 78. Alter developed the first residential community for middle-income minorities in Illinois in 1959 and built millions of square feet of commercial, industrial and institutional properties. He received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Chicago-based Urban Land Institute.
