Flannery

>Michael R. Flannery has been elevated to president and CEO of Woolpert Inc., a Cincinnati-based engineering firm. He succeeds Rex W. Cowden, who becomes senior vice president involved in acquisition and growth strategies. Flannery, an 18-year company veteran, was director of its private sector market and is a board member and senior shareholder.

Duke Energy Corp., the Charlotte, N.C., utility, has named Richard W. Haviland senior vice president for construction and major projects. He had been president and CEO of Air Liquide’s project execution group and was a senior manager at Calpine Corp. and Bechtel Power Corp. He will supervise major planned power projects, as well as nonregulated and alternative energy facilities.

Hill International Inc., Marlton, N.J., announces several executive changes. David A. Price is elevated to senior vice president for business development in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for the construction claims group. He was vice president and managing director. Also promoted to senior VP is Craig W. Johnson, now in charge of claims operations in Las Vegas. He was a vice president in the project management group. Dennis L. Allen joins Hill as senior VP in the claims group in Washington, D.C. He had been a senior manager in the construction consulting practice of Exponent Inc. Michael B. Smith is promoted to senior VP in charge of project management offices in Irvine, Calif., and Phoenix. Joining Hill as vice presidents in the project management group are Steven V. DiBartolo, former senior project executive at Gilbane Building Co.; Anthony C. Vesay, former commander and district engineer for the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Miss.; and Patricia Bywater, former senior associate and strategic marketing director for STV Inc. Richard W. Klein also is promoted to vice president of international finance for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He will be based in Athens.

Donald P. Fusilli Jr. has joined David Evans Enterprises Inc., Portland, Ore., as CEO of its new marine sciences subsidiary to be based in Vancouver, Wash. He was founder and head of The Telum Group, a strategic planning consulting firm for engineering firms, and served as CEO of Michael Baker Corp. from 2001 to 2006.

KCI Technologies Inc., Hunt Valley, Md., has promoted Joel S. Keels to vice president in charge of the firm’s mid-Atlantic construction management division. He had been division chief.

Granite Construction Inc., Watsonville, Calif., has named Peg Wynn as vice president, director of human resources and assistant secretary. She had been senior vice president of worldwide human resources at Adobe Systems Inc. and previously, in a similar position at Xilinx Inc.

Roger Helgoth has been promoted to president of Kirkham Michael, an Omaha environment and infrastructure engineering firm. He also will continue to manage the firm’s Nebraska practice.

Wilfried Laufs and T. Albert Chen have joined Thornton-Tomasetti Inc., New York City, as vice presidents. Laufs had been executive vice president at Werner Sobek Engineering & Design, Stuttgart, Germany, and specializes in glass and building envelope engineering. Chen, whose former employer was not disclosed, will be based in Los Angeles and specializes in seismic retrofit of municipal and commercial structures.

Pöyry plc, a global engineering firm based in Vantaa, Finland, has hired Heikki Malinen as president and CEO, effective June 1. He had been executive vice president at UPM-Kymmene Corp., a Helsinki forest products firm. Malinen replaces Erkki Pehu-Lehtonen, who had been in that role since 1998 and will become an advisor to the company’s board of directors. Pöyry plc focuses on energy, forest industry and environmental engineering markets and employs 7,300 staff in 45 countries.

Kamdar
Kamdar

Paulus, Sokolowski & Sartor, a Warren, N.J., design firm, has elevated Nandita Kamdar and Keith Samaroo to vice president. Kamdar is manager of multi-discipline engineering projects, supervising commissioning and validation activities. Samaroo is business development director for two New York state offices.

Kitchell Corp., a Phoenix-based building contractor and construction management firm, has named James T. Swanson as president. In that role, he replaces Bill Schubert, who remains CEO until his planned retirement in 2010, when he also becomes chairman. Swanson joins the firm from a previous role as senior vice president at Affiliated Computer Services. He was also a national partner of Arthur Anderson LLP.

Parsons Brinckerhoff, New York City, has promoted Chuck Kohler to executive vice president. He had been operations director for the firm’s Europe/Africa business unit. Judith Cooper was named assistant to recently named CEO Keith Hawksworth. She remains senior vice president and director of PB’s corporate communications group, and also is immediate past president of the Society of Military Engineers’ New York City post.

Stacy Bartoletti has been elevated to president and chief operating officer of Degenkolb Engineers, a San Francisco-based structural engineering firm. A 15-year firm veteran, he had been group director for its Portland, Ore., and Seattle offices. He now guides overall company operations and business development.
