Richard J. Brauer has been elevated to president and CEO of McFarland-Johnson Inc., a Binghamton, N.Y., design firm. He had been executive vice president and replaces Tom Coughlin, who is retiring. Brauer is formerly transportation division manage at Fisher Associates and was a vice president of Sear-Brown Group, Inc.

Schnabel Engineering, Inc., a Glen Allen, Va., geotechnical firm, has promoted Jesús E. Gómez to principal. He leads its geostructural group in West Chester, Pa., with design and construction experience in geotechnical projects in the U.S., South America, Europe, and the Caribbean. Gomez specializes in design and field supervision of pressure-injected footings, drilled piers, micropiles, shoring, and tiebacks.
Peter Basso Associates, a Troy, Mich., mechanical-electrical engineering firm, has promoted Terrence G. Cleis Jr., Eric C. Deska and George A. Hopkins to vice president from senior associate. Cleis specializes in power and security system design, Deska in lighting and telecommunications and Hopkins in HVAC, piping and control systems engineering.
Philip L. Bruner has joined JAMS, an Irvine, Calif.-based provider of alternative dispute resolution services, as director of its global engineering and construction group, based in Minneapolis. He had been a senior partner and founding head of the construction law group of Faegre & Benson LLP, Minneapolis, and is immediate past president of the American College of Construction Lawyers.
ARCADIS U.S., Denver, has named Pete Dyke executive vice president and chief financial officer. He oversees financial, human resources, information technology and corporate governance. Dyke previously was director of global infrastructure organization business solutions for Agilent Technologies.

Fred Cook has joined Suffolk Construction, Boston, as vice president of corporate interiors. He most recently was a senior vice president at Chicago-based Jones Lang LaSalle and had served as vice president of corporate interiors at Payton Construction.
IAP Worldwide Services, Cape Canaveral, Fla., named W. L. “Tex” Carter commercial vice president for energy and natural resource services, a new unit. He was vice president of oil, gas and chemicals for Washington Group International.
