Herzog
HERZOG

William E. “Bill” Herzog, founder of Herzog Contracting Corp. a major rail and transit construction firm in St. Joseph, Mo., that ranked 194 among ENR’s Top 400 contractors last year, died on March 6 in Platt City, Mo., at age 88. Herzog founded the firm in 1969 after a 22-year career in the public and private sectors. It had $385 million in 2008 revenue. Herzog also held numerous patents in materials and equipment techniques, and is a former president of the Associated General Contractors of Missouri.

Lore
LORE

H. Edgar Lore, a former contractor executive recognized by ENR in 1979 as Man of the Year for unifying unionized employer groups with formation of the 16-member National Construction Employers Council, died on Dec. 8, 2008, in Irvington, Va. He was 95. Lore was named CEO of Pittsburgh-based Dravo Corp. in 1970 and retired in 1978 as vice chairman after a 35-year career at the firm, a pioneer in nuclear power construction. The firm later was sold to Westinghouse Co. and Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. Lore also headed other union contractor employer groups and was named president of The Beavers, a California-based heavy construction professional association, in 1975.
