Guest Blog: ENR Launches Continuing Education Feature Series
William McDonough + Partners
The duty of licensed professionals to stay on top of their game for the benefit of clients is the underlining principle behind state licensing boards' requirements that architects and engineers obtain a certain number of continuing education units (CEUs) per year in order to maintain their licenses. The number varies state by state and profession by profession and can be met in many ways. Perhaps the easiest way is to read the new monthly CEU features in ENR that are approved by the American Institute of Architects for continuing education.
This month's feature is on passive ventilation design. Readers needing CEUs can fill out the test form , submit it to ENR and receive one AIA/CES LU hour if the document is 80% correct.
This feature is the second in the series. The first, on building information modeling, appeared in ENR last month. Both are syndicated from Architectural Record magazine, which, like ENR, is part of McGraw-Hill Construction. Tests are valid for two years.
Most states now accept AIA learning units for engineers' continuing education requirements. In the future, ENR will develop other features with a special emphasis on engineering. There also will be opportunities for sponsored special advertising sections approved by AIA for education credit produced by building product manufacturers and other industry organizations.
The move toward syndication is designed to leverage the resources of MHC to benefit readers. It also includes 11 MHC regional magazines, the editors of which now comprise MHC's National News Bureau. They will be contributing to ENR and AR, and the work of editors of those publications will be appearing in the regional magazines and Websites. We hope that readers like the new services.
