From the Outer Reaches of the Internet, Construction Blogs

Ewe Degiampietro-FOTOLIA

Even in our tireless labors to maintain a twenty-four-hour-a-day construction news juggernaut, we here at ENR.com are not able to cover every single interesting detail of today's industry. Lucky for us (and you), there are independent bloggers out there who dedicate their time to following various sectors of the industry, reporting breaking news, providing their opinions and delving into the most obscure corners of construction. We are collecting some of these independent blogs in order to show you the interesting ones in our new blogging section of ENR.com. Here are a few that offer something extra for the construction news and opinion junkie:

Womble Carlyle Construction Industry Blog
Run and maintained by the law firm Womble Carlye, this blog covers many of the legal issues surrounding construction, and offers legal analysis of industry developments. Everything from complex liability issues to the changing nature of arbitration.

Connected: A Blog About Design and Building Project Collaboration
A blog about project management and modeling technology, with a focus on Autodesk-derived products. It also discusses many of the current issues surrounding interoperability and Building Information Modeling.

The Construction Contractor's Digest
Aimed at those working in contracting, these guys deal in bigger projects than refinishing your neighbor's kitchen. Large contracting jobs face many of the organizational issues that are seen in major construction projects, and this blog covers such topics as documenting procedures, CPM, and the future of the contracting market.

FacilitiesNet Design/Construction Blog
Maintained by FacilitiesNet and nominally aimed at those in facilities management, this blog covers developments related of future facilities and office construction. There is a particular focus on technologies related to green building techniques, which is currently in vogue among facilities managers.

Contract Journal Construction Blog
Contract Journal, a UK publication that covers the construction industry in Britain, has a frequently updated blog filled with news stories about British construction and related video links. It also covers the lighter side of the industry, with incisive posts such as "Your Favorite Construction Smell!"
