Park City, Utah  Region ENR Mountain States

Project Team

Owner Ohana Real Estate Investments, San Diego

Architect HKS Hill Glazier Studio, Salt Lake City

General Contractor Layton Construction Co., Sandy, Utah

Engineers Alliance Engineering, Park City, Utah; Magnusson Klemencic Associates, Seattle; Beaudin Ganze Consulting Engineers, Lakewood, Colo.

Construction Manager The Athens Group, Phoenix

Built on 16 acres at the Deer Valley Ski Resort, this LEED-Silver luxury lodge was designed in a "mountain craftsman" style, with four wings arranged in a butterfly pattern along a steep hillside. After uncovering webs of former mine tunnels at the site, Layton Construction stabilized the shafts and used excavated mine wasteas capped fill for a ski run. Unearthed old explosives were safely detonated on-site. In addition to the steep slope, structural issues included a high seismic risk, heavy snow-load requirements and a complex, multistory stepped roof.
