THE TOP 25 NEWSMAKERS OF 2006
Derek Cunz

DAM/Jeff Wells
Using 3D-enabled construction saved time and money on the Denver Art Museum, says the contractor.

By driving M.A. Mortenson Co. into the digital age, beginning tentatively with the Disney Concert Hall and successfully culminating-but not ending-with the Denver Art Museum, Derek Cunz, director of project development, has opened the floodgates for contractor-led building information modeling-helping to make a paradigm shift in the design and construction process and full team BIM more than a pipe dream. Cunz's BIM mania is raising eyebrows even among reluctant architects and technologically challenged subcontractors. DAM, Mortenson's poster child for BIM, was brought in on time and within budget this fall-despite its wildly angular and irregular geometry.
