The British government has approved a 1,000 mw offshore wind farm, claimed as the world's largest of its type. The estimated $2.9 billion farm will include approximately 270 turbines in shallow water 20 kilometers into the Thames Estuary.
Project developer London Array Ltd. needs local government approval for onshore facilities. London Array is owned by E.ON U.K., Shell WindEnergy Ltd. and CORE Ltd. A second $975-million nearby offshore project, by Warwick Energy Ltd., also secured government approval.
