Contractors often
are on their own when experimenting with information technology,
but everyone benefits when they share their findings. Thats
the idea behind the Associated General Contractors
Best Information Technology Solutions (BITS) contest. The
winners of this years awards made presentations of their off-the-shelf
or original solutions at AGCs national convention in
March in Las Vegas.
Clancy & Theys, Raleigh, N.C.,
won first place for its use of a wireless tool called
Field2Base (www.field2base.com). The product distributes project
information to all parties in multiple formats. Second
place went to Walsh Construction Co., Portland, Ore., whose
homegrown Risk Management System helps control and assign
project liability. Ainsworth-Benning Construction Inc., Spearfish,
S.D., won third place for its upgrade of Firesafe, which won
a BITS award last year. Firesafe distributes human resources
and safety information to project participants.
