Complex Geometry Is Like Child's Play

Designers using software borrowed from mathematicians or the aircraft industry to create flowing shapes may find the latest release of a program that builds curves from linked planes to offer a practical alternative.

TekCAD 2002, from TekStar International, Longwood, Fla., is a three-dimensional geometry generator that creates and manipulates complex forms through either mathematical or freehand interfaces. The approach is based on vertices and edges—like Tinker-Toys—joined in any 3D arrangement. Objects may be adjusted graphically or by numeric input. Designs can be exported as .DXF files for inclusion in other CAD projects.

The price is $925. A demo is available at www.tekstaronline.com.
