Temple to shift from military programs to civil works.
The Army has selected two new leaders for the Corps of Engineers' civil works and military programs. Maj. Gen. Merdith W.B. (Bo) Temple will shift from his current post as head of Corps military and international programs to become deputy commanding general for civil and emergency operations, the Pentagon announced on Sept. 18. Brig. Gen. Jeffrey J. Dorko will take Temple's place as Corps deputy commanding general for military and international operations. Dorko has commanded the Corps' Gulf Region Division in Iraq since October 2007.
Temple will succeed Maj. Gen. Don Riley, who has held two jobs since April, as both the Corps' deputy chief--a post that Riley will continue to hold--and overseeing its civil and emergency operations.
Lt. Gen. Robert Van Antwerp continues as the Army's chief of engineers and Corps commander. The dates on which Temple and Dorko will assume their new positions have not yet been detemined.
In April, the Army changed the titles of what had been the Corps' directors of civil works and military programs, respectively. Besides formally adding emergency response and international duties to the positions, officers holding the two jobs were designated as deputy commanders.
Dorko, who in early September was nominated to be a major general, was injured in Iraq last October by a roadside explosive device. He was hospitalized but back on duty by last Thanksgiving, says Corps spokesman Gene Pawlik.
