James A. Williams
General Services Administration
Williams now heads GSA's Federal Acquisition Service

President Bush has nominated a senior General Services Administration official to be GSA's chief. Bush's choice, nominated on June 25, is James A. Williams, who has been commissioner of GSA's Federal Acquisition Service since 2006.

Williams previously was director of the Dept. of Homeland Security's U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology Program (US-VISIT).

David Winstead will continue as commissioner of GSA's Public Buildings Service.

GSA's Acting Administrator, David Bibb, announced June 25 he would be retiring Sept. 1 to pursue a position in the real estate industry. Bibb's long career at GSA includes holding top positions within the agency's Public Buildings Service, and becoming GSA's deputy administrator in 2003.

Bibb was named acting administrator after Lurita Doan resigned the post April 30.
