Abu Dhabi Building Will Lean More Than Leaning Tower of Pisa

The owner of a building under construction in Abu Dhabi, along with its architect, New York City-based RMJM Hillier, have applied to the Guinness Book of Records to recognize the tower as the most inclined in the world. The 160-meter-tall Capital Gate tower will have an 18° tilt. By comparison, the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans less than 4°. Because of its “unique posture,” the building sits on an extremely dense mesh of rebar on top of 490 piles driven 30 m underground to accommodate gravitational, wind and seismic forces, says the architect.
