Project of the Month: A Highway Through Key Largo
An alligator trundles past an earthmoving bucket during construction. Engineers and contractors made a priority of maintaining or restoring historic water flows and protecting wildlife. In some areas fences were used to direct wildlife to safe crossings; culverts were positioned as crossings for crocodiles and alligators.
